AMBERLEY MUSEUM VOLUNTEER CO-ORDINATOR circa £21,000 pa FTE (actual salary around £12,600 - £16,800 depending on hours worked and experience) 3-4 days per week (some weekend working) Amberley Museum is recruiting a Volunteer Co-Ordinator. The Museum is a 36 acre site located in the heart of the South Downs National Park, dedicated to showcasing and preserving the working past of the South.  Its origins were as a chalk and lime making quarry. The region’s past can be discovered across 20 exhibit areas including a narrow-gauge railway and historic bus rides and there are regular weekend events.  This provides a diverse experience for over 50,000 visitors p.a. including over 3,000 schoolchildren. A team of some 200 active volunteers contribute to running the site. A registered charity and an accredited independent museum founded 40 years ago, the Museum is located next to Amberley railway station near Arundel and close to major access roads in West Sussex. The Museum is open to the public in the main season Wednesday to Sunday. We have recently received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund as part of its Reaching Communities programme.  The funding includes provision for a part-time Volunteer Co-Ordinator for two years. As well as looking after our existing volunteer team the main role will be to develop and run an out-reach programme in the local community in order to recruit more Volunteers from socially isolated backgrounds, specifically men, over 65 years old, who may not have volunteered before. This will involve pro-actively developing relationships with local organisations such as County and District Councils, Parish Councils, voluntary organisations, retirement homes, and charities. Improving the profile and awareness of what the volunteering at the Museum contributes to the local community is an important element of the programme. It is intended to become a pioneering programme for other charities to follow to create an inclusive and satisfying volunteer experience for all. The successful candidate will engage with our existing Volunteers to learn about the environment in which the new volunteers will operate and will be able to develop a detailed work programme in order to deliver the outreach programme (with some support from other staff and Trustees). A confident speaker and presenter, the successful candidate will have experience of successfully working with volunteers, as well as proven analytical and reporting capability. Experience in elderly social care is desirable. The post holder will be able to work as part of a small team, proactively manage their own work and have an ability to think creatively. Previous experience in the heritage/voluntary sector would be an advantage. Access to transport is necessary as a significant part of the role will be undertaking visits in the Sussex region, including areas where public transport may be minimal (a mileage allowance will be paid when on Museum business). Ideally, we are looking for someone who wishes to work flexibly for 3-4 days per week. Some weekend working might be required with time given off in lieu. If you are interested in this position please submit a covering letter of no more than two sides to Richard Vernon, Chairman, which addresses how you best meet the needs of the role, along with your CV  by email to (url removed) by 5pm on 8th September 2019
