The role 

BICC is a team that supports the Department’s Enterprise Performance Management System. 

We have identified a need to bring in an Experienced Web Developer to assist in building several new Web Applications to assist the Department to produce data collection and accurate reporting, initially for Financial data but also HR and later data on project outcomes.

Job description

About the role 

• We are looking for a Full Stack JavaScript Developer with a knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as NodeJS, VueJS, React, SQL and C# to be involved in the full lifecycle of Web App Development within the BEIS Finance and Portfolio Directorate. 

• We would expect the Developer to be actively involved in working with users to create system requirements then building these requirements into functioning Web Applications. We have several new projects pending; that would allow the Developer to be involved throughout the projects 

• Developer will build both the front end and the back end of the application interfacing with SQL databases and other RestAPIs, using current web standards, writing quality code and comments 

• The Developer would bring a wealth of experience in the field and share knowledge of tools and techniques within the team 

The role will be required to work on (high level) 

• Data Collection and validation apps 

• Meta Data Management – Chart of Accounts Change Request system 

• Financial Intercompany Elimination and Journaling Applications 

• New functionality to an existing application written in C# 

• 2nd Line Support of existing applications
 

Responsibilities

Skills and experience 

Essential 

• Experience in front-end development, with detailed knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript 

• Experience of working with at least one JavaScript Framework such as NodeJS, VueJS or React 

• Experience working with Rest APIs 

• A knowledge of SQL and how to interface with SQL to store and retrieve information 

• Understanding of software design principles, including progressive enhancement 

• Documenting both User Needs/Stories as well as producing quality Technical Documents 

• Ability to quickly research and learn new programming tools and techniques 

• A systematic approach to solving problems 

• Experience of using testing to validate solutions 

• Understanding of agile environments and version control (eg GitHub) 

• Understanding of and experienced in working with web security 

• An awareness of technologies used for web applications, e.g. HTTPS, JSON and CDNs 

Desirable 

• Working with JIRA for Project Management and Issue tracking 

• Agile methodologies 

• Knowledge of Application Deployment techniques and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment 

• Accounting knowledge 

• Knowledge of OLAP e.g. IBM Cognos Planning Analytics (TM1) and Data Warehousing 

Learning and Development
