A. Lamb Associates are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to provide support to our in-house team in our recently opened Warrington Office.

We are seeking someone with drive and ambition to progress their career and contribute to the growth of our highly successfully family-owned consultancy.

The primary responsibility of this role will be to provide project commercial support to our clients in and around the North West, although we expect that there will also be opportunities to support our claims teams.When providing commercial support, the role may be as part of a larger ALA team or as an individual integrated into our client’s team.In either circumstance, advice, support and supervision will be provided by Senior Staff at ALA.

Your place of work will be our Warrington Office, but you may be required to travel or be based from a client’s offices or on site.

You will be required to manage your personal workload in line with the team and the client’s priorities, ensuring positive impact on customer, supplier and stakeholder relationships over the contract cycle, resulting in timely delivery of obligations of quality and cost, whilst working to promote the client’s and ALA’s standards and expectations.

You will have a personal commitment to continuous improvement in delivery of objectives.You will act as deputy for the more senior Quantity Surveyor’s, as and when required.

Please note that experience working on claims is not essential as training and development opportunities will be provided.

Duties:

Duties will vary between commissions/projects but are likely to encompass core QS functions, including:

  • Preparation of quotations and tender submissions
  • Preparing plans, contracts, budgets, bill of quantities and other documentation
  • Identifying potential risks and evaluating options for control
  • Ongoing cost analysis
  • Producing valuations
  • Buying and placing orders with Suppliers and Sub-Contractors
  • Analysing Sub-Contractor quotations
  • Preparation and agreeing of variation accounts
  • Preparation and agreeing of interim valuations, actual costs and forecasts
  • Preparation of final accounts
  • Supporting Senior Quantity Surveyors in the preparation of claims to include some or all of: data/evidence gathering, data analysis, preparation of draft claims narratives, chronologies, witness statements and narratives on contractual entitlement.

Essential Qualifications

  • HND/BTEC with drive to build to higher qualification level

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or construction related disciplines preferred
  • Accreditation to professional body i.e. RICS, ICE or similar

Essential Experience

  • 2-5 years’ experience supporting project teams
  • Experience with standard form contracts such as JCT, NEC or FIDIC
  • Experience managing a varied workload
  • Experience of core QS functions
  • Experience managing customer relationships

Desirable Experience

The following are desirable but not essential:

  • Experience working in nuclear, highways, utilities or traditional building/construction
  • Experience on large, high value, or complex projects
  • Experience of selection and management of suppliers
