Role Overview

We are looking for a Commercial Manager to join our contract with Kent County Council delivering key highways maintenance works across the region. Amey have been awarded a 2-year extension on the project worth £40m per annum, so there is opportunity for the right person to develop within the role and the contract. Amey provide a full range of Highway services under the agreement with the Council including carriageway maintenance and repair and winter clearing. More recently the contract has been one of the first to trial 'winter sensors' on street lighting in order to gather real time data on winter highways conditions.

What will this role involve?

As a Commercial Manager at Amey you will be responsible for the end to end commercial process for the contract. Working closely with the Kent CC local authority and reporting into the Principal Commercial Manager, you will provide expert knowledge and support to the relationship and the wider team. Going forwards you will:

  • Develop the commercial team
  • Manage and maintain our relationship with Kent County Council and Supply Chain
  • Manage payments
  • Manage inbound cash & applications for payment
  • Submit variations and early warnings
  • Produce monthly reports and CVRs
  • Assist with bids & tenders for ad-hoc packages of work in addition to the work we undertake for KCC
  • Be second in command and lead the commercial team in the absence of the Principle Commercial Manager
  • Be used to dealing with both high value construction schemes and also small but high volume reactive repair jobs.

What are we looking for?

This exciting, hands on opportunity requires a strong Commercial Manager with a QS background, ideally from within the Highways industry. The successful applicant should also have a relevant degree, qualification or chartership; or a demonstrable appetite to work towards one of these. Relationships and values are key to working with us at Amey, so you will need to be able to establish and hone effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, promoting Amey values consistently
