Home Care Assistant - HCA
Location: Glasgow, South Lanarkshire
Salary: Hourly rate from £9.00 per hour upwards – depending on experience + mileage paid + pension + holiday pay and much more!
Employment Type: Full time or Part time – flexible depending on your preference
Shifts: Days or evenings available (7am to 2pm OR 4pm to 10pm)
Contract type: Permanent and Temporary on offer
Smartcall are working with a Care at Home and Housing Support service that offer a wide range of service users within set service care models in Scotland. Service users are identified by social work or through private referral pathways that require an agreed level of specific support to achieve lifestyle goals and/or offer a continuum of support to ensure independence & lifestyle management.
Further Details:
As a Support Worker you will provide whatever help and encouragement is required by an individual for them to take control of their life. It is likely that to achieve this, the person receiving support will require aid from a number of different people, including friends, family, co-tenants. It will therefore be necessary for the support worker to respect and work co-operatively with others enabling the individual to live in their own home within their local community, based on the individual’s preferences/needs within the framework of the Care Plan and Risk Management Strategy.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Providing personal care including:
Assisting a service user to rise from or go to bed
Assistance with the physical transfer of service users, with or without the use of mechanical aids
Assistance with personal hygiene, including cleaning as a result of incontinence or other personal needs.
Assistance with washing, bathing and showering
Dental hygiene
Assistance with catheter care
Assistance with colostomy care
Assistance with stoma care
Assistance with eye drops
Assistance with shaving and hair care
Assistance with dressing and undressing
Assistance with toileting
Assist service user to prepare for day care etc.
Give social and emotional support as required
Awareness of health needs:
Recognise need to summon GP/nurse
Co-operation with relevant health and social care providers including GP, district nurse, health visitor, occupational therapist, social worker etc.
Assisting with medication, by prompting and monitoring the taking of medicine by service user
Uplift, collection and delivery of prescriptions
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB
Qualification/training (preferred)
A good standard of general education. Read and write legibly
SVQ in Health and Social Care or equivalent
Experience
Have experience of care at home and housing support
Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary setting
Knowledge/skill
Proven ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to people with disabilities and vulnerabilities.
A commitment to a service which provides support to vulnerable individuals, and which is respectful and according to the individuals’ wishes
Good communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to communicate effectively with Service Users, customers, colleagues, Managers and other persons with a legitimate interest in the project.
Commitment to training and development
Flexible and innovative approach to working
Knowledge of care planning systems
Empathy with the concept of Social Role Valorisation/Principles of Ordinary Living
Decision-making and problem-solving skills
