Job description

The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trust” - as the country prepares to leave the EU, the scale of this challenge cannot be underestimated. More than 90% of food and feed law in the UK currently comes from Europe and our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and UK consumers’ wider interest in food.

Regulatory Compliance Division (RCD) was established on 1 December 2018 as part of the wider FSA re-structuring exercise to enable us to prepare for the challenges of EU Exit and the transition to a modernised regulatory system being delivered under the ‘Regulating Our Future’ (ROF) Programme.

RCD’s responsibilities relate to the delivery of official feed and food controls – in other words the checks and processes in place to monitor compliance of feed and food businesses with the requirements of feed and food law, and where necessary to enforce those requirements.

Our work centres round those bodies that deliver these official controls - the FSA itself, other delivery partners on the FSA’s behalf, and local authorities. We are responsible for setting regulatory standards for these delivery bodies, monitoring and assessing compliance with these standards, and for providing delivery support.

RCD comprises two units: Compliance & Standards Unit and Delivery Support Unit – and there are vacancies in each of these – please see below.

Compliance and Standards Unit

1. Official Controls Performance Management Officer (1 role available as permanent or secondment)

2. Official Feed and Food Controls Operational Policy Officer (1 available as permanent or secondment)

Delivery Support Unit

3. Shellfish Official Controls Adviser (1 role available as permanent or secondment)

Now, more than ever, we need to be able to demonstrate that the FSA is an excellent, accountable and modern regulator and that we are an effective Central Competent Authority providing oversight and assurance of the delivery of official feed and food controls in place to ensure that food is safe and what it says it is. The post holders that are appointed will contribute to the work programme that RCD has in place to do this.

Please read the Candidate Pack to discover further details about the roles, our organisation, who we are looking for and the criteria we will assess against during the selection process. We look forward to receiving your application and wish you every success.
