Do you have a passion for geospatial data, problem solving and analysis and want to be part of a world leading organisation offering excellent career development potential? If so, this is the opportunity for you.

About UKHO

The UK Hydrographic Office is a leading centre for hydrography, providing marine geospatial data to inform maritime decisions. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support maritime navigation, safety, security and marine development around the UK and worldwide.

This role sits within the Marine Geospatial Data Management Team (MGDMT, which has evolved in response to the growing customer appetite for marine data services and data sets. The team offers a dynamic environment, where geospatial analysts apply their GIS and analytical skills, often with an element of discovery and innovation, to respond directly to customer needs.

The role

As a Geospatial Analyst, your role will vary depending on business needs but will likely involve:

  • Interpreting, analysing and manipulating geospatial data to maintain and improve data quality whilst adhering to good data management principles and data governance guidelines.
  • Supporting strategies to exploit new data and populate data gaps based on Customer division user research and priorities.
  • Delivering briefings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Actively coaching and mentoring less experienced staff including apprentices.
  • Supporting continual improvement activity including process improvement, change charters etc.

Your profile

You will have practical, recent experience in manipulating geospatial data within GIS software packages, but how you work is just as important in this role.  If you enjoy problem solving and applying your knowledge and analytical skills to finding alternative and often novel methods for sourcing, manipulating, managing and presenting data sets then this is an ideal role for you.  You will thrive on working as part of a supportive team sharing a common goal and get job satisfaction from delivering quality, fit for purpose outcomes to meet customer needs.

In return

We will actively empower you to develop yourself and provide flexible working practices for a healthy work/life balance. You will also benefit from a brand new award winning office, with free use of our on site gym, free parking and subsidised canteen.
