If so, then this exciting opportunity as our Officer Administrator is for you, and we’d love to hear from you!

Based under the Maritime Operations Directorate, the Office Administrator will provide efficient and effective business and administrative support.

This is a great opportunity for a proactive individual to embrace a diverse and varied range of responsibilities, supporting the teams that provide a national emergency service as part of MCA.

The role is extremely varied, making it an exciting and interesting work environment with a fast-paced energy which will make the role very enjoyable.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

-Supporting NMOC and HMCG national network recruitment campaigns, including creating vacancy request forms and recruitment timetables, organising sifts and assessment days, uploading to and maintaining information on online recruitment portals, arranging medicals and pre-employment checks.
-Compiling and providing accurate and timely management information and statistics for end of month reports.
-Providing executive assistance, including correspondence, invoice and payment processing, collation of documentation for meetings and minute taking.
-Where a major incident or national emergency (or an exercise of such) has been declared, providing operational and executive support to Tactical and/or Strategic Command Groups, including working as a loggist when directed.

About You

You will be a confident and approachable individual with excellent interpersonal skills.

We will need you to be responsive, utilising your ability to prioritise work based on the requirements of the directorate, being versatile and reacting positively and adjusting to the requirements of the role.

We would like you to be a self-motivated person who isn’t afraid to think for themselves as the role calls for a certain level of autonomy.

Whilst you will work independently you will confidently vocalise yourself to seek out information and answers ensuring to deliver against set objectives in a timely manner.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, comfortably interacting with colleagues at all levels, building rapport with internal and external stakeholders at all grades, delivering information in a clear, confident and professional manner, tailoring this to suit your audience.

You will have proven IT skills especially with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths, Ability and Experience.

After submission of your short application you will be invited to complete a Verbal Reasoning and Numerical Reasoning test.
You must be successful at each stage to progress to the next test. If successful on each test you will be progressed to the next stage to complete a full application.

If you fail to complete the online test and submit your full application before the deadline your application will be withdrawn.

Company

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom working to prevent the loss of lives at sea and is responsible for implementing British and international maritime law and safety policy. It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.

Its responsibilities include coordinating search and rescue (SAR) on the coastline and at sea through His Majesty's Coastguard (HMCG), ensuring that ships meet international and UK safety standards, monitoring and preventing coastal water pollution and testing and issuing Merchant Navy Certificates of Competency (licences) for ships' officers and crew to STCW requirements The organisation is led by Virginia McVea, its Chief Executive, who took up post in February 2023.The MCA are chiefly responsible for the syllabus and national training standards issued by the Merchant Navy Training Board (based at the UK Chamber of Shipping).
