This role is to share the care of two girls, 10 and 11, who are home educated because of complex needs, making a huge difference to family. The role is part-time on Mondays and Wednesdays. Dad works full-time and Mum is a full-time carer for the girls, who struggle with many aspects of life including learning and social activities because of complex mental health needs. Due to supporting some self-care activities for the girls, this role is only suitable for a female candidate. Typically a day will include supporting the girls with morning routines, supporting them to participate in leisure activities such as swimming, encouraging learning activities (no expectation to deliver an education program but any experience in this would be great), supporting any psychological or sensory therapeutic programmes. You will be a key part of the children’s care team, working extremely closely with Mum, and with access to team of professionals if required: clinical psychologist, post-adoption social worker, specialist tutors. Training will be provided in the girls’ specific social and emotional needs, as well as regular supervision-style sessions with Mum and the other family support worker. The right candidate will: ? be able to commit for at least 6 months, ? have some experience of childcare or spending time with children ? be ready to learn about trauma and attachment-informed care ? reflect on the girls’ psychological inner world as part of a team ? communicate effectively with girls and parents ? be able to look after themselves emotionally – on occasion the role can be emotionally demanding ? have a UK driving licence and ideally access to a car ? be able to provide referee details and undertake a DBS check ? demonstrate calm, flexibility, empathy and a sense of humour Closing date for applications: Monday 28th October 2019
