Description

We are looking for inspirational tutors to deliver learning for adults.

Surrey Adult Learning employs over 300 part time tutors. The role is focussed on teaching, inspiring and supporting adult learners to successfully complete their course/qualification and progress towards achieving higher level skills.

We offer a wide range of courses including English & Maths, ESOL, Arts & Crafts, Languages, Exercise & Dance, Humanities, Work Skills & IT and Cookery. In addition we have specific courses run by our Supported Learning, Family Learning, Outreach and Passport to Wellbeing teams.

We offer a competitive hourly rate of £20.44 to £24.52 per hour, plus 14% or 16% annual leave entitlement dependent on length of service with Surrey County Council. This rate includes preparation time and travelling. Contractual benefits include a teacher's pension scheme, continual professional development and discounted Surrey Adult Learning courses. An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check may be required for some roles.

This is a zero hours (bank) contract. The amount of work you are offered will depend on our programme and on your availability for day, evening and Saturday classes.

Classes are run in the north and south west of Surrey and are based around seven main centres: Guildford, Camberley, Farnham, Woking, Esher Green, Sunbury and Molesey. Family Learning and Outreach courses are run across Surrey in schools and Community Centres.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.

About the role

You will need to hold a professional teaching qualification (minimum of Level 3 Award in Education & Training), although for some subjects we will consider applicants who are able to demonstrate that they are working towards a qualification. You will also have qualifications/expertise in your subject area, a love of your subject and a passion for teaching. You will need to demonstrate a commitment to providing excellent learning opportunities for your learners; experience of teaching adults in a classroom environment is desirable, but not essential. You will be able to adapt teaching and learning strategies and select resources as appropriate in order to meet learner needs. You will be supported by a professional and experienced line manager.

Our tutors ensure that learners are provided with the opportunities to develop and progress their skills, confidence and employment opportunities through a range of teaching and learning opportunities.
