Do you have special skills that you could teach? Could you support people with learning disabilities, helping them to learn new skills for their lives?

We have vacancies for Support Workers in our expanding Lifelong Learning services which is based in Ampthill. We also provide these services throughout Bedfordshire supporting adults and are currently recruiting for full and part-time positions, please let us know how many hours you are looking to work and we will discuss further at interview.

We currently work with 54 adults with different learning disabilities requiring varying levels of support. This is a varied role in which you will support people to attend both the daytime learning centre and provide one-to-one support in the community (Outreach). Activities take place in the daytime, evenings, weekends and bank holidays, so you would be working relevant shifts on a rota basis.

You may be working in people's homes, one-to-one or as part of a team; Supporting people in a person centred way either in groups or on a 1-1 basis the daily activities can be varied as well as the shifts. You will join in with their favourite pastimes and hobbies, helping them lead active and healthy lives in their local community. You will support them to learn domestic and life skills such as looking after their homes, caring for their health, and being aware of their financial responsibilities.

What we need from you

Experience is not necessary, as we provide a full induction and free training programme, so this role is appropriate for a trainee or an experienced Healthcare Assistant who was looking for a change. People join us from many different backgrounds; What's important is that you share our values, have a positive approach and are willing to learn.

It is essential for this position that you hold a driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK, together your own transport which is insured for business use, because you will be travelling to support people around Bedfordshire. You will also be asked to drive mini buses and mobility vehicles belonging to the service.
