General Summary
Based in Discovery’s office in Chiswick, London, the position is a key role within Discovery’s dedicated sport team within the global communications function. Reporting into SVP – Sport Communications, the successful applicant will be a member of the communications team which promises a dynamic and fast-paced environment and significant experience of working in the media and sport industry. He/she will be required to work closely with all relevant departments internally (e.g. production, marketing, digital, rights, ad-sales), having a solid understanding of the current media landscape and experience working seamlessly across campaigns targeting B2B and B2C audiences.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will be, but not limited to

 

GENERAL

  • Develop and execute on media strategies that deliver standout results across varied outlets, in multiple markets
  • Drafting of media releases and related materials to support announcements and news generation.
  • Prepare and draft executive and supportive briefing documents as required
  • Excellent media relations skills – sports trade B2B media contacts preferable

 

PLANNING

  • Participate in idea generation and development of communications plans and materials ahead of major events that form Discovery’s key sporting pillars (i.e. cycling, tennis, golf and the Olympics).
  • Support and maintain on-going news generation plan.
  • Prepare 360-degree plans to announce and promote key developments that support that company’s business objectives.
  • Develop proactive creative ideas and identify key PR opportunities


B2C

  • Work in collaboration with communications assistant to prepare PR toolkits ahead of some of Eurosport’s pillar sporting events
  • On-site communications support at live events, to drive B2C communications with local markets, throughout the sporting calendar as required
     

B2B

  • Work in collaboration with communications assistant to maintain awards calendar and identify opportunities to submit award-winning campaigns
  • Support senior communications team to deliver dedicated B2B communications programme to support Discovery’s ad-sales and wider business objectives
  • Plan and maintain an editorial and news calendar for Eurosport’s corporate digital platforms (corporate website, Twitter and LinkedIn)
  • Support Senior Communications Director by identifying speaking opportunities for Discovery executives and draft briefing documents accordingly

 

TEAM

  • Represent the communications function at key cross-department workshop as required to further successful communications planning and delivery.
  • Stakeholder Management: build and manage relationships with communications colleagues across the Discovery (Sports) network ensuring message alignment
  • Regular meetings with key stakeholders internally (i.e. production teams, marketing, digital, ad-sales) ensuring communications teams is kept across all aspects of the business
  • Participate in monthly calls with communications colleagues across Discovery’s sports network

Requirements

Requirements

  • Agency background (preferred)
  • Fluent in English with excellent writing skills
  • Proactive, can-do attitude and personality
  • Ability to work seamlessly across Discovery’s sports propositions (B2B and B2B) including, but not limited to: Eurosport, GOLFTV, Play Sports Network as well as the Olympics
  • An interest in, and understanding of, the evolving sports media landscape (including Discovery’s positioning within it)
  • Willingness to travel for extend periods
  • Well-organised and able to prioritise tasks based on deadlines
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with key external and internal stakeholders
