Position Summary

The CMDB Architect is responsible for defining, developing, and delivering the CMDB strategy, design, architecture, standards and solutions to ensure that IT services continually provide the best possible business outcome and user experience. This includes creating a CMDB roadmap to implement key operational processes, controls, governance, service metrics, and service design standards aimed at delivering measurable business benefit through a well-managed, business-aligned, value-add CMDB.

He or she will utilise his or her skills, experience, and expertise to ensure that the CMDB team is focused on value-add activities in support of business and technology needs.  This position provides a wide variety of services to our business users including developing our current CMDB architecture into an industry-leading function, engaging with key stakeholders throughout the business and technology teams to gather requirements and build a clear understanding of where the CMDB can support strategic and tactical planning for best-in-breed service delivery, as well as day to day business operations. 

Responsibilities

Accountability

  • Serve as primary contact to IT and the business for CMDB architecture expertise.
  • Develop and maintain a business-outcome focused CMDB roadmap.
  • Create and manage a value-add CMDB improvement plan.
  • Act as the CMDB Architecture subject matter expert.
  • Manage stakeholders and CMDB change demand.
  • Review and approve incoming CMDB change, with a focus on minimizing impact while delivering maximum value.
  • Provide CMDB best practice expertise, advice, and support across GT&O and to the business.
  • Develop a CMDB best practice center of excellence and knowledge base.
  • Manage relationships with multiple business organizations, global technology groups and 3rd party vendors including: facilitating requirement and design workshops, reviewing designs; reviewing deliverables and schedules; managing quality or delivery issues.
  • Providing CMDB architecture subject matter expert advice and support to project management, technology, and business teams as and when required.
  • Provide leadership across the organization in a broader operational capacity related to the implementation and utilization of CMDB best practices.
     

Expertise

  • ITIL SACM expertise and experience.
  • CMDB design, development, and review.
  • CMDB standards drafting, implementation, and measurement.
  • Coordinating agile matrix teams to deliver against agreed goals.
  • Senior stakeholder engagement and management.
  • CMDB implementation and operations experience.
  • Design and implementation of CMDB frameworks.
  • Organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience in high-level business discussions and low-level technical discussions.
  • Demonstrate strong presentation skills with one-on-one, with small and large groups.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, leadership & communication skills including negotiation, conflict resolution, grace under pressure and the ability to manage upwards and across.
  • Participate in assessment and feasibility studies of available technologies and recommend solutions.
  • Is able to work under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for independent judgment.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle on a proactive basis, changing priorities in a fast-paced environment to maximize time-management and efficiencies.
  • Be comfortable delivering a compelling service presentation, including the ability to tell a story and communicate business value in addition to illustrating key features and benefits.

Customer Focus

  • Manage the assessment of current state CMDB architecture and operations, providing insights, and proposing relevant improvements.
  • Work collaboratively with teams to define CMDB specifications, prioritize delivery, build consensus and facilitate delivery across multi-discipline teams.
  • Prioritize key CMDB deliverables with other change requests to improve service reliability and performance and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Ensure a user-centric CMDB design focus is maintained throughout all new and existing service delivery.
  • Understand the current CMDB challenges and develop and deliver CMDB improvements in response to these.
  • Operate both strategically and tactically in a dynamic environment by developing relevant, sustainable solutions and align the right resources to the task at hand.

 

Clear Thinking

  • Develop clear, concise, actionable roadmaps, CMDB improvement initiatives, and related analysis from both “business” and “technical” perspectives to facilitate a continual service excellence-focused CMDB function.
  • Engage with, and manage, any and all stakeholders involved in the development, measurement, and delivery of CMDB architecture standards.
  • Manage the coordination and delivery of the full CMDB and SACM architecture suite of capabilities, including prioritization, scoping, planning, sizing, and measurement.
  • Provide user and business-centric perspective on all CMDB initiatives being delivered, including communicating the value of initiatives to stakeholders and end users.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, problem solving skills, intellectual maturity, and relationship management skills.
  • Serve as a cultural ambassador demonstrating through actions continuous learning, a positive outlook, a drive to make an impact and being accountable for results.
  • Ability to balance risk with business priorities and applies the appropriate sense of urgency to issues.
  • Work effectively with customers, partners, executives, stakeholders, and our Technology and Product teams to build well defined and integrated CMDB architecture roadmaps to deliver on the strategy.
  • Elicit, analyze, specify, and validate the business needs for CMDB improvements, standardized processes, governance, and controls. This includes interviewing stakeholders and gathering and compiling user requirements to develop the ‘right’ solution. Apply communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help support the delivery of service architecture standards and solutions, to ensure that deliverables are met according to specifications. 


Global Mindset & Innovation

  • Partner with GT&O lead(s), team members, key IT and business stakeholders, vendors, consultants, and end users, to understand the Global Technology and Operations strategy and roadmap and align business requests to fit into or enhance the roadmap.

 

People Development

  • Drive constructive delivery by bringing people ‘along for the journey’ through clear and concise solution development and presentation
  • Develop and maintain effective & collaborative working relationships with IT groups, business partners, and vendors.
  • Provide feedback for process and CMDB improvements to help improve self-effectiveness and team efficiency.
  • Provide best practice expertise, support, and relevant training to team members and stakeholders as and when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or equivalent degree/work experience
