St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1, the District includes a cathedral, historic city centre and charming villages. Our refurbished offices are in the city centre near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short it is a great place to live and work.

In this key role you will provide professional advice, guidance, interpretation and evaluation on all aspects of the work area to service users and colleagues. Taking the lead on the research and delivery of specific policy and projects, you will at as the departmental expert to inform the preparation of an up to date Development Plan and associated documents.

You will also project manage and supervise team members and consultants to provide input to projects and take responsibility for project delivery. You will also seek to deliver corporate priorities through the preparation and delivery of an up to date Development Plan and associated documents.

Educated to degree standard or equivalent with professional Membership of the RTPI, you must have considerable knowledge and experience of preparing spatial planning documents for this senior role. In depth knowledge of planning legislation and the government guidance is essential for this role.

An excellent communicator, both orally and in writing, you will have the ability to represent the Council in a wide range of forums from regional agencies to local bodies, together with the ability to supervise and support officers within the team.
