Associate Director - Toll Sourcing and Manufacturing

You’ll be leading the toll sourcing, procurement and manufacturing team in EMEA ensuring the effective procurement of indirect materials and services. Working closely with the manufacturing group and direct suppliers, to improve efficiency and profitability, you will manage sourcing strategies, supplier risk management, supplier relationship management and contract management for toll and non-toll activities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the toll sourcing, procurement and manufacturing team in EMEA
  • Supporting all EMEA functions with indirect materials and services procurement
  • Ensuring that toll governance policies, procedures and best practices are created, managed and maintained for all toll sourcing and manufacturing activities
  • Managing sourcing strategies, supplier risk management, supplier relationship management and contract management for toll and non-toll activities
  • Build and develop a highly effective & engaged team
  • Work closely with the manufacturing group and direct suppliers to improve efficiency and profitability for Illumina
  • Lead key projects that support the long-term strategy for toll sourcing and manufacturing
  • Responsible for the reporting and on-target results for all Key Performance Indicators related to toll sourcing and manufacturing
  • Responsible for the implementation of new service providers in the EMEA region
  • Deploy sustainable Lean and CI methodologies
  • Lead regular communication updates including monthly business review meetings to share performance and project status
  • Responsible for the development and training of all personnel within their structure
  • Collaborate and influence across all business functions
  • Ensure resilience via Business Continuity activities across Toll and the EMEA region
  • Provide input and expert guidance for the development of the annual toll manufacturing production budget and quarterly production plans
  • Approval of annual toll manufacturing operating expense budgets, including headcount plans
  • Approval of capital equipment budgets for the toll manufacturing sites
  • Oversight of toll factory capacity planning and factory expansion/contraction plans
  • Provide input, guidance and oversight for toll sourcing and manufacturing operations strategy, objectives and plans via regular influence and dialogue with the senior operational and sourcing leaders at the toll manufacturing sites

  • Able to provide general supply chain expertise, oversight, and guidance
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and execution skills
  • Able to assess and build business case for improvements and resource requests
  • Proficient in the use of ERP and IT systems - SAP desirable
  • Located at Illumina’s European Headquarters in Great Abington, Cambridge, UK. However, the role will require frequent travel to California, USA plus other locations as necessary.  An average of 20% - 25% total international travel should be expected.
     

Preferred background and experience

  • BS/BA degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, engineering, supply chain, procurement or operations management
  • Master’s degree an advantage
  • Experience of managing sourcing, procurement and manufacturing at a senior level
  • Must be a demonstrated and proven SME in Sourcing, Procurement, Manufacturing, SRM and contract management
  • It is also highly desirable to have demonstrated leadership experience within one or more of; clinical manufacturing, medical device manufacturing, CMO management, planning, project management, customer service or commercial operations
  • A proven track record of delivering high quality results at regional and global levels
  • Experience of working within a matrixed, multi-stakeholder global organisation
  • Demonstrated experience of leading a broad range of multi-disciplinary functions within a life science environment
  • Must have extensive experience of applicable senior leadership experience in a life science environment
