What is the purpose of this role?

  • To lead or fulfil a managing role within a design team to ensure: compliance with all relevant technical standards; delivery of all the specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the quality required; and that guidance is provided for less experienced staff and professional development and training is actively pursued.
  • To consider future technologies Intelligent Mobility sector, how they might disrupt our business as usual activities both positively and negatively, and how Amey should develop its skills and capabilities to meet the challenges these bring



What will this role involve?

  • Develop designs in accordance with the Client's requirements and relevant design standards to achieve cost effective solutions
  • Assist in the development and supervision of project team members
  • Assist with competency appraisal processes subject to suitable level of supervision
  • Represent the business stream in multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances
  • Prepare and check of feasibility studies, appraisal / assessment reports and other written documents
  • Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options
  • Produce and check design concepts, design details, drawings specifications and other technical documents
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with the Client and other relevant stakeholders
  • Successful in identifying and following through on leads associated with additional work prospects on the projects they are involved with
  • Writing and publishing papers describing innovative projects and solutions, presenting those at conferences



What are we looking for?

  • First degree or Higher-Level qualification in suitable engineering discipline(s), computer science or technology related or previous relevant experience.
  • Computer literate and thoroughly conversant with MS office suite and relevant engineering software packages
  • Systems engineering skills (systems/server management; database management)
  • Ability to understand and analyse data; experienced in using data analytics processing and scripting tools (for example R, S, SPSS, Python)
  • Knowledgeable about some or all of the following emerging technologies/areas, including demonstrable experience and knowledge in developing innovative solutions in partnership with academic bodies:
    • Connected/Autonomous Vehicles
    • Co-operative ITS
    • Transport and Environment (Air Quality, Emissions from Transport, Clean Air Zone / Low Emissions Zone implementations)
    • Mobility as a Service
  • Experience of the co-ordination of the design process and team management
  • Good communication skills dealing with clients, project partners, supply chain, elected representatives and the public
  • Environmental awareness; Tool Box talk IOSH working safely
