The purpose of this role

This is an excellent opportunity for a Site Engineer to join our HS2 Align JV team.

To oversee and manage a particular group of tradespeople



What will this role involve?

General Responsibilities

  • Tracking / processing day to day orders
  • Ensuring site delivery requirements are met
  • Booking in / checking out components and / or plant
  • Loading and unloading of vehicles
  • Repair and testing of plant and components along with relevant documentation (service / maintenance sheets)
  • Repair and testing to Kettering Plant Yard fixed assets
  • General repair and maintenance to Yard, Workshops and Offices
  • Manage and mentor Apprentices
  • Manage and mentor relevant Tradespeople/Labourers
  • Ensuring a high level of Health and Safety in all duties of the workforces
  • Ensuring adequate resources are in place to cover holidays, illnesses etc
  • Monitoring of daily checks and permits as required
  • Regular monitoring of stock levels as required
  • Liaising with the Mechanical Engineering department when required
  • Provide guidance and training on the safe use of work equipment

Stores Responsibilities

  • Checking deliveries - incoming and outgoing and liaising with relevant departments
  • Issue of COSHH data sheets as required

Crane Responsibilities

  • Repairing and testing of tower cranes and their various electrical components and safety systems

Electrician Responsibilities

  • Electrical repairs to Kettering permanent plant
  • Repair of small tools
  • PAT testing in accordance with regulations

Welding Responsibilities

  • Fabricate crane bases / grillage to meet site deadlines

Scaffold Shop

  • The sorting of scaffold components and the repair both on site and off site

Carpenters

  • Refurbishment of site accommodation to site requests, ensuring all work meets relevant criteria

Line management responsibilities

What we are looking for

  • You will have had experience of managing engineers, tradesmen and subcontractors on site. You will lead by personal example and achieve consistently high standards of health and safety performance and behaviour.

    You will be educated to ONC, full trade qualification or NVQ level 4 qualification or equivalent and have a Supervisory CSCS Card (Gold). Extended experience and a general level of education may be sufficient. Applicants will have an understanding of:

    • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
    • Construction Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1996
    • Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007
    • Management of health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and
    • Other relevant legislation
