Director of Operations

A fantastic new opportunity has become available for a Director of Operations to work for one of the UK’s top animal welfare charities based in Watford, striving to give every animal the best chance of finding a new home.

Position: Director of Operations

Location: Flexible – Can be based at the Head Office in Watford or remotely based within reasonable travelling distance of one of the centres

Salary: £55,000 per annum plus £5,000 car allowance

Benefits: 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), contributory pension scheme, access to free 24/7 support service including legal, financial, emotional and medical advice.

About the role:

The Director of Operations is responsible for delivering our clients strategic aims through a team of just over 100 employees, as well as a significant number of volunteers across their five rescue and re-homing centres, voluntary branches and supporter groups.

The initial focus will be on reviewing the operational activity across five centres and implementing new centre structures and ways of working that deliver a sustainable future.

Critical to success in the role is the ability to understand all aspects of the charity’s operational activities and to plan, lead and achieve continuous improvement in their rescue and rehoming work, as well as maintaining high standards of animal welfare and customer service.

About you:

The ideal person for this role will have a strong track record of management and of leading teams through periods of significant change, you will also have experience of the following:

 

  • Significant Senior management experience
  • Experience of managing diverse operations and across multi-site locations
  • Excellent communication and customer care skills
  • Demonstrable evidence of management of health & safety in the workplace
  • The ability to develop and implement systems, policies and procedures robust enough to be open to external scrutiny
  • The ability to be flexible and work as part of a team

 

Although not essential, experience within an animal organisation would be beneficial for this role.
