Job description

The Maritime & Coastguard Agency has started an ambitious IT transformation programme that will deliver improved capability across an expanded IT workforce. We aim to improve all technology services whilst supporting the wider business on its own transformation requirements and ensuring IT aligns to their needs.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer in Application Operations Mission to operate within our Southampton based MCA team. You will be responsible for code deployment and coordinating change based activities such as taking services live. You will be in charge of dealing with more complex issues and the likely impact it will have on the business.

This role provides you with a fantastic opportunity to influence key IT functions at the MCA, helping to shape and create an environment that makes a real difference for the UK public.
 

Responsibilities

Roles Responsibilities include and not limited to:

• Delivering software components to enable MCA product delivery and operation.
• Maintaining applications using proven frameworks and technologies.
• Delivering against the team’s technical strategy.
• Liaising with product managers and technical architects to explore and suggest appropriate technical solutions.
• Maintaining relationships with MCA suppliers and partners.
• Monitoring work against the delivery schedules.

This role will have an on-call element attached to, however the exact pattern and potential bonus has not yet been confirmed. We will be able to confirm these details once you have been invited to interview.

About You

Do you have experience in and also competent in the following areas:

- Using relevant Operating Systems including performing basic administrative tasks.
- Implementing best practice, particularly around scalability, availability and performance.
- Experience of test-driven development alongside use of automated test frameworks.
- Project working experience, particularly Agile methodologies.
- Working experience in an environment where products have to be delivered to specific time-scales.
- Ability to rapidly and effectively understand and translate product and business requirements into technical solutions.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom working to prevent the loss of lives at sea and is responsible for implementing British and international maritime law and safety policy. It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.
