Job Details

GWR is much more than ‘just' a great train operator serving customers in one of the most interesting and beautiful regions in the world.  We're a team of over 6,000 people from different backgrounds, helping other people make important journeys in their lives.

As a Customer Service Apprentice at GWR, you'll train and learn, while you earn.  You'll experience a variety of on board and station work placements including Station Operations, Gateline, Customer Host, Ticket Office and Revenue Protection where you'll gain real customer service skills.  And you won't be on your own - we'll support you every step of the way.  You'll have the opportunity to learn from our experienced colleagues and our academic partners and you'll be allocated a mentor.

Who are you?  First and foremost, you'll have a willingness and dedication to learn, coupled with a determination to succeed.  You'll be a great communicator and be able to work in a team.  Essentially, you must be over 16 years of age, live within one hour of the locations listed and have a GCSE (or equivalent level 1 qualification (or predicted results) in Maths and English.

In return you'll enjoy a range of benefits including a defined benefit salary pension scheme, free rail travel across the GWR network for you and your family, a company-sponsored health care plan, plus an Employee Assistance Programme.

When you join, you'll undertake vocational training, development sessions, team building events and intensive on-the-job training. The scheme offers the opportunity to attain a Passenger Transport Level 2 qualification, and an undergraduate award through the IRO (Institution of Railway Operators) at Glasgow Caledonian University. You will also be given the opportunity to attain your Duke of Edinburgh Business Gold Award.

Shifts will start no earlier than 07:00 hours and finish no later than 20:00 hours. The working week is Monday through Saturday, with a rest day during this period. During periods of training, overnight stays may be required.

The apprenticeship scheme starts on 31 August 2020 and is for 18 months.  You'll be required to undertake on line testing as part of the recruitment process - details will be emailed to you upon completion of your application. If short listed, you'll attend an assessment week commencing 23 March 2020.

Do you have what it takes to join our award-winning team?
