Purpose of the role

To take responsibility for a geographical area of the city, to support the organisation efficient delivery, day-to-day monitoring, of all operational maintenance and Lifecyle activities across the highway network on the Streets Ahead PFI contract in Sheffield. Working within the community to deliver strategic improvements in key areas, communicate with residents and businesses on planned works to minimise local disruption. Carry out inspections of reported defects to ensure effective first time fix, improved utilisation of resources and minimise customer contact.



What the role will involve

  • Monitor any activities within the public highway for compliance with current legislation, our policies and contractual obligations and to ensure that adequate records are kept;
  • Carry out inspections of defects to support effective and efficient planning of works to ensure a right first-time approach is delivered to the highest standards going forward.
  • Support the planning of highway maintenance works, through local knowledge established in the role.
  • Carry out regular inspections of works to ensure the quality expectations are achieved, supporting the operational team and supervisors.
  • Identify and challenge opportunities to drive efficiencies within the assigned geographical area through improved planning to support works being delivered in accordance with targets, productivity and budgets.
  • Correspond and liaise as necessary with statutory undertakers, parish councils, members of the public and other authorities including the police.
  • Correspond and liaise with relevant departments of the city council. Where appropriate, to assist in successful delivery of LIP and maintenance activity whilst courting new business opportunities.
  • Produce reports and recommendations on highway problems.
  • Support the operational team in the delivery and coordination of winter maintenance and emergency operations within your geographical area of responsibility.
  • Adhere to all health and safety instructions and take all reasonable care not to do anything that might endanger you or others.
  • Report to your line manager any dangerous situations in the workplace or any shortcomings in health and safety arrangements.
  • Monitor and take relevant action with contractors in the area of your responsibility
  • Provide an important link between local communities/residents and Streets Ahead, helping to identify any issues on the highways - this will include holding meetings where appropriate within the community.



What we are looking for

Skills

  • Full drivers' licence
  • Good knowledge of the assigned city area
  • Good numeracy, literacy and computer skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience of dealing with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to present to groups/articulate responses/act appropriately on information

  • Willing and prepared to participate in the 24 hour client emergency service and call-outs when required and winter standby arrangements (out of normal working hours)
