Summary

Would you like to join our Commercial Team managing key franchising contracts across the UK?

Are you an inspirational leader with the expertise in commercial contract management?

If so, we would love to hear from you.

Job description

The Department for Transport’s Rail Group is responsible for taking Britain’s railway into the future. We are committed to delivering a sustainable and customer-focused railway, putting passengers at the heart of the journey. We are working on a diverse range of high-profile projects, including procuring and managing franchise contracts worth billions of pounds.

We are looking for a dedicated Senior Commercial Manager who is passionate about delivering the best transport solutions for passengers and taxpayers and who understands that achieving this in the complex Railway Sector requires commitment and tenacity.

This high-profile role is pivotal to managing and bringing about improvement to a portfolio of long term commercial franchising contracts, ensuring contractual and performance obligations are met and exceeded. You will work collaboratively with franchise companies and other key partners on continuous improvement projects which may include developing and managing specification changes to deliver tangible improvements in passenger experience.

You will be Rail Group’s key interface at Board Level within specified franchise operators and build and maintain long-term commercial relationships to meet and exceed our objectives. You will be the liaison for collaboration with a range of internal and external partners, including Passenger Representative Groups and provide briefings to senior management and Government Ministers.

Responsibilities

You have a broad understanding of market and commercial drivers and the ability to develop strategies to exploit these, considering financial, legal and commercial implications. You have experience of solving complex commercial problems in a fast paced and high-profile environment.

You are an articulate and persuasive communicator, with the ability to build and establish collaborative commercial relationships with multiple stakeholders at Board level.

You demonstrate a high degree of personal resilience, with the ability to work under pressure and maintain performance levels under challenging circumstances.
