Position: Non-Executive Board Member

Salary: £5,851 per annum

Hours: Minimum of eight afternoon meetings per annum

Our Board has had a proud history of a mix of members from diverse backgrounds; with diverse expertise. To continue this trend, we are now looking to recruit another Non-Executive Board Member with some skills, knowledge or experience in Asset Management and/or Health & Safety, including Landlord Compliance skills.

Who are we?

We are Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA). Founded in 1973, we are an agile and forward thinking organisation committed to providing and managing housing for people in need, as well as offering vital care and support services. We manage over 9,500 homes, house more than 20,000 people and employ approximately 1,200 colleagues in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. In partnership with 30 local authorities, we build new affordable homes to meet local needs. This includes homes for sale, rent, shared ownership and ‘try before you buy’ schemes.

About the role

As a Non-Executive Board Member, you will work as part of a team and be collectively responsible for ensuring the success of the Association and its compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations. In addition you will also direct and supervise the Association's affairs; providing oversight across the NCHA Group.

You will also set the Association’s strategic aims and take key strategic decisions about the Association’s future development; provide entrepreneurial leadership of the Association. You will play a big part in determining the remuneration, appointment and where necessary, removal of Chief Executive and executive management.

About You

You will be a values-driven person with an understanding of the needs of diverse communities, including people with disabilities and those who are socially disadvantaged.

You will demonstrate sound independent judgement and have an understanding of how a Board operates and have the ability to work effectively in a team. You will have excellent communication skills and a clear understanding of the issues facing the Housing and Care sectors; along with a strong commitment and empathy with the aims, values and objectives of the Association.

Finally, you will accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship including meeting the fit and proper persons test under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and have some skills, knowledge or experience in Asset Management and/or Health & Safety, including Landlord Compliance skills.

If you’ve got a passion for housing and/or social care, live within the East Midlands or have a strong understanding of the challenges faced by the region, we’d love to hear from you.

Be assured that you will be joining a successful Board and contributing to our vision of “More Homes, Great Services, Better Lives”.

As a Disability Confident and Equal Opportunities Employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, including those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups and disabled candidates. We particularly welcome applications from women, as they are currently under represented on our board.
