Job Details

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior Workplace Health, Safety & Environment professional to join the Advisory and Capital Solutions business of Macquarie Capital. Based in London you will create, support and oversee the reputational workplace health, safety and environmental responsibilities across Macquarie’s principal, non-financial and high-risk assets. You will have a key role in developing internal governance, compliance and cultural guidelines within Macquarie Capital. This is a global role which will require some travel.

As an experienced Workplace Health, Safety & Environment (WHSE) professional, you will be responsible for embedding the WHSE strategy across our portfolio of assets and for ensuring overall compliance with Macquarie Capital’s WHSE framework. On a managerial level, you will also provide leadership to asset managers and nominee directors to help improve their accountability for WHSE and pre-deal due diligence. In doing so, you will ideally have some form of post-graduate qualification in environmental, sustainability or health and safety management.

In this role, you will work closely with deal teams by providing expert advice on WHSE matters for new and ongoing transactions, with a focus on WHSE process improvement on a global and asset level. In order to do this, you will establish new and leverage existing relationships with external legal and technical firms in each region, particularly amongst US-based infrastructure and industrial contacts. From a regulatory perspective, you will be responsible for maintaining Macquarie Capital’s WHSE risk assessment including the review of asset and industry data, analysing trends and developing actions for continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will have a significant level of experience as a WHSE professional in either an internal or external advisory capacity or as part of a broader operational role within the Construction, Infrastructure, Renewable Energy or Extractive Resources sectors. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate strong strategic, technical and multi-national WHSE expertise supported by appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g. Engineering). You will complement this with expert stakeholder management and relationship building skills and ideally some Board-level exposure and previous experience in a revenue generating capacity.

If you are a commercially minded and dynamic senior WHSE professional who recognises the importance and value of WHSE and has extensive cross-jurisdiction experience, and are looking for a challenging, progressive role in your career, we would like to hear from you. European language skills would also be an asset, specifically German.

Macquarie Capital provides advisory and capital raising services to corporate and government clients involved in public mergers and acquisitions, private treaty acquisitions and divestments, debt and equity fund raising and corporate restructuring. It also undertakes principal investing activities globally in support of its client activities.

Advisory activities are divided into industry groups, reflecting key areas of expertise. With staff in 37 offices across 22 locations, Macquarie Capital is a truly global business. A role in the team will expose you to a dynamic working environment and the opportunity to contribute to high-profile transactions whilst working in a business with the best people in the industry.

Working at Macquarie

We believe in providing a positive environment for all our staff that is innovative and inspiring. For our female staff, Macquarie’s senior leaders are actively involved in increasing the representation of females in management positions.  In June 2014, we launched a mentoring programme for females, with the following two objectives:

  • Address female retention rates at Senior Manager level and improve our diverse pipeline of talent;
  • Engage female Senior Managers by providing tools and support around their personal development;

The programme pairs up Senior Managers with Directors, who meet on a monthly basis, and are supported by active group sessions (bi-monthly) with an external facilitator.

We select some of the brightest minds to help us in solving complex challenges for our clients.  We recognise that recruiting talent from varied backgrounds is essential to improving our understanding of the marketplace, and enhancing creativity and problem-solving capabilities in our businesses.

Because of this, our commitment to you is to create a diverse and inclusive workplace regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity or cultural background.

We make this commitment not only because it is the right thing to do but it opens up a world of opportunity, securing the future of our people, our success and our business
