Benefits: 33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays), 3-6% pension contribution depending on service

Contract type: Full-time, Permanent.

Closing Date: 31st August 2020

About the Role:

The role of Helpline Support Worker is crucial to the organisation, reporting to the Operations Manager you will be a key member of the small head office team and will be encouraged to get involved in the full breadth of the day-to-day work of the charity.

You will be the first point of contact for clients, most of whom will be struggling and may be both emotionally and physically vulnerable. You may be the first person many of the clients will have spoken to about their issues and being able to put them at ease in a professional, yet warm and friendly manner is incredibly important. You will help build trust and engagement from the very start.

The role is varied but will involve handling new client enquiries, understanding their situations, assessing their needs, booking appointments, providing information, and acting as an advocate for the work the charity does. You will also help us to support the amazing volunteers.

About you:

To be successful in the role of Helpline Support Worker you will have a warm, accessible and friendly manner which is able to put people at ease and instill confidence and trust. Our client believes that ability counts more than direct experience. However, you will need to bring with you the following transferrable skills and experience:

  • An exceptional telephone manner and an ability to respond positively and with compassion to a range of emotions which may be displayed by clients
  • Effective writing skills and a good telephone manner, giving thought to the audience of each communication
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task
  • Attention to detail
  • Willing to embrace new challenges and act on your own initiative, as well as within a team ethos, with a willingness to ‘muck-in’
  • Good IT skills and a strong command of the Microsoft office suite
  • A strong ability to show empathy, compassion and patience

Above all else our client is looking for an individual who is keen to support and play their part in implementing their vision and be an enthusiastic advocate of the work they do to alleviate poverty. They are a faith based charity and although being a practicing Christian is not an occupational requirement, they are looking for someone that is comfortable with their Christian ethos and champion its core values. If this sounds like you, then apply today with a CV and covering letter explaining how you are a good fit for the role!

Other roles you may have experience of could include: Debt Advisor, Benefits Advisor, Benefit, Debt & Money Advisor, Debt Recovery Advisor, Debt Service Coordinator and Adviser, IVA Advisor, Senior Advisor, Housing Advisor, People Advisor, General Advice Caseworker, Community Coordinator, Community Action Worker, Telephone Advisor, Operations Executive, Helpline Officer, Helpline Support, etc.

As part of your application you will be asked to address the following points:
