As the Data Analysis Lead, you’ll lead on the delivery and continual improvement of business as usual reporting for the Department for Transport Resourcing Group (DRG) and the different business units in the Department for Transport (DfT) family.
The DRG is continuously striving to improve the resourcing service by making processes more efficient and inclusive. As part of this, we need our decision to be supported by the best evidence and advice. In this role you will deliver deep analysis and insight into resourcing data, providing high quality analysis and research which is robust, proportionate and appropriate for the decision at hand.
You’ll take the lead in maintaining and improving our existing reporting and MI offering, as well as support on the management and ongoing configuration of our Salesforce CRM, which is being used a workflow orchestration tool. You’ll ensure reporting is robust and readily available for ad-hoc requests and to drive decision making in long-term activities such as business planning, forecasting and strategic workforce development.
You will be responsible for the conception, development and implementation of HR MI & system change initiatives within DRG supporting strategies across Group HR Operations.
You will be reporting to the Projects, Data & Governance Manager and DRG Resourcing team and have the chance to create positive working relationships across the Department for Transport. You will be a lead decision maker in our Data service and technical process, making recommendations for innovations and enhancements, whilst encouraging and offering development and support to your team.
• deliver business as usual reporting, working to innovate and continuously improve reporting to reflect resourcing strategy and highlight key performance areas suitable for varied audiences
• provide deep analysis and insight into all resourcing data, providing high quality analysis and research
• provide narrative and communicate the story that the data is evidencing, making recommendations when appropriate.
• build strong and trusted relationships with GRS MI Team to create accurate and timely reporting.
• maintain, manage and improve existing automation and reporting packages within DRG; including but not limited to contract generation, recruitment tracking, merit list and redeployment
• find new ways to automate data collection or reporting, freeing up time for HR MI roles to focus on analysis and innovation
• implement digital solutions to enable easier ways of working and reducing the burden of administrative elements to tracking and reporting
• develop an engagement and capability strategy for building confidence and skills in the MI PowerBI self-serve function and the CRM
• ensure robust availability of appropriate data for external obligations (i.e. Treat Official, Ministerial Correspondence, Freedom of Information Requests, Parliamentary Questions)
• develop strategies for incorporation of recruitment data into larger HR reporting space
• support the growth of the Power BI platform within HR and ensure data is fit for purpose and can be aligned to other systems data
• responsible for the development of new methods of interactive reporting to support team delivery.
• manage ad-hoc insight and analysis of data, develop and automate dashboards and drive forward data driven decision making with the availability of reliable, intuitive and inclusive reporting
• take responsibility for DRG’s MI & Change team activity and develop MI/CRS capability within DRG.
• gather requirements and suggest and develop ad-hoc outputs to support colleague’s activity, with both one-off and periodic insight which accounts for the broad availability of data
• take responsibility for the effective delivery of DRG’s service and priorities, living the Civil Service values, leading DRG with confidence, inspiring, engaging and empowering their team to deliver an excellent quality service
Please note that once normal working arrangements resume the successful candidate, if not based in Swansea, will be required to travel regularly to the Swansea office.
About you -
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with strong inter-personal skills, innovative thinking and talent for analysing data and telling the story behind the data, getting people on board with new ideas.
Essential skills -
• experience working with Power BI.
• basic knowledge or experience of working with or on a CRM system
• google Analytics
• advanced knowledge of complex Excel formulas and macros
• visual Basic for Applications (VBA) coding
• a broad understanding of Microsoft Access & database building & query design with SQL
