Job Details

NEST is the National Employment Savings Trust. It was set up by the government to give every worker in the UK somewhere to save for retirement. We’ve since grown to become one of the UK’s largest pension schemes.

Your new team

Working as part of the General Counsel (GC) directorate, and reporting to the Director of Commercial Law, this role will work with colleagues within NEST and external organisations (suppliers and relevant government agencies) to provide legal support at an incredibly exciting time in NEST’s evolution.

The GC team works collaboratively with 4 external law firms to provide the legal advice required by NEST. The range and complexity of issues within NEST mean that it is not possible to have in-house resources and expertise in all areas, so we have arrangements with leading law firms to supplement the internal expertise.

Your new role

You will be a qualified lawyer with extensive experience in commercial and contract law, particularly in the context of large IT outsourcing contracts. Knowledge of public procurement law would also be helpful but is not essential.

You will have a track record of effective leadership in complex and high-profile commercial environments.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent relationship building skills and experience of facilitating good decision making with senior stakeholders.

This role offers a fulfilling combination of interesting commercial legal work in an organisation that makes a positive social impact.

NEST is a key part of the government’s auto-enrolment pension policy, one of the largest economics and social change policies to be implemented in a long time.

NEST provides a fantastic opportunity to be part of several exciting challenges. Firstly, consolidating a digital self-serve pension scheme in a financial services environment dominated by traditional players. Secondly, providing a ‘public service’ to millions of workers in the UK while supporting a commercially sustainable business model.

This role offers an opportunity to work for NEST at an exciting time and to have a tangible impact on the commercial delivery of one of the biggest pension schemes in the UK. Expectations for delivery in this role are high and the environment is dynamic and high profile.

What you’ll need to succeed in this role

You will be able to articulate complex information in an accessible, credible and compelling fashion.

You will have first rate strategic thinking and analytical skills.

You will relish problem solving and relationship building.

What you’ll get in return

This role sits at the heart of NEST, within a collaborative and supportive GC team. It offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of an organisation facing unchartered waters and will be hugely stimulating and rewarding for the right candidate.

Everyone wants a good work life balance and you will be working with a truly flexible employer, fully embracing a working from home culture and flexible working hours.

You will have your birthday and Christmas Eve as an additional bonus to the already fantastic holiday allowance and of course…a generous pension contribution.

This is a permanent role with a base salary of up to £90,00 plus Benefits.

Company

NEST is a great UK success story.

Established in 2010, NEST is a critical pillar of the Government’s automatic enrolment programme, with a public service obligation (PSO) to accept any employer wishing to use the scheme to discharge their automatic enrolment duties.   From a standing start, we have delivered a high quality, low cost pension scheme open to all, which has not only delivered on its mission, but has also helped to drive up standards and best practice across the industry. Now with over 6 million members and well over half a million participating employers, NEST is playing a critical role in helping people save for their retirement - many of them low to moderate earners who may be saving for the first time, and moving jobs frequently.   NEST now occupies an important place in the pensions market and will deliver high quality pensions to mass market consumers for many years to come, leveraging its scale to deliver value through the combination of low costs, market leading investment solutions and modernised services all overseen by strong Trustee governance.
