Job Title: Senior Android Engineer
Location: Central London office
Base Salary: £76, 650 - £101, 400 base salary plus excellent benefits

 

The role is based at out central London hub location. When we can return to the office, there is opportunity to work 1-2 days per week from home and work from the office 3 days per week. We're happy to offer flexible work schedules, for example start and finish times, or compressed hours!

The Team
You'll be working as part of the Retail Transformation directorate delivering new features for customers across our brands in the mobile space. The Retail Lab mobile teams are fully agile and strive for excellence. As a part of the team, you'll have the opportunity to participate in internal Hackathons, coding challenges and bi-weekly platform meetings where the community shares knowledge.

 


About the role
In this role, you'll contribute to the technical leadership team's work of driving the technology and future of the platform, working with Strategy and UX/UI Design teams and customer organisations to architect, design, implement solutions. You'll also be crafting, developing, and producing mobile components and services, and resolve, apply, and improve appropriate methodologies and toolsets for the customer.

 

The minimum background experience and skills you'll need to apply:
*You have a deep understanding of mobile experience design for variable screen sizes in variable versions of Android including Android SDK
*Strong understanding of Android UI design principles, patterns, best practices and experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning and proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git
*Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks with an understanding of Google's Android design principles and interface guidelines
*Show excellent passion for mentoring and people development in a "player-coach" model

 

Additionally, we'd looking for hands-on experience of continuous delivery across areas such as code reviewing; mentoring/educating junior (or less experienced) developers; understanding of basic App architectures (i.e. MVP); strong Java & Kotlin knowledge; confident knowledge about best practices libraries (Dagger2, RxJava, RxAndroid, Retrofit, Butterknife).

 

It would also be great if you have the following experience but not essential:
*Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications
*Understanding of RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services i.e. RxJava
*HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and responsive web design as well as knowledge of web services
*Conversant with MVVM architecture, Android Architecture Components
