Our vision is to put finance at the heart of DfT decision-making through managing processes and systems to create, protect and drive value for money.

You will be an important member of the Finance Business Partner team, delivering assurance on the financial position and performance of the Group so that effective action is taken on a timely basis. You will provide regular and robust financial information and detailed analysis to key stakeholders. You will ensure high quality financial management is embedded throughout the business.

You will have strong technical and influencing skills to provide advice, challenge and scrutiny to senior colleagues. You will ensure that budgets are well constructed, managed and monitored. You will support senior managers in the production of business cases and plans to deliver improved performance, reduced risk and better value for money.
 

Responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the roles include, but are not limited to:

• Provide expert financial advice and management to stakeholders, challenging and supporting Directors and Budget Holders in managing spend on a portfolio basis

• Actively contribute to the development and production of planning including quarterly forecasts and annual budgets

•Working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver business objectives, actively gaining knowledge and understanding work of the Department

•Analyse data and use this analysis to create compelling evidence-based and actionable data stories to share with stakeholders to drive decisions

•Summarise and present financial and non financial data and conclusions in the most appropriate format for users and;

•Manipulate and link different data sets (for example data on workforce and financial data)

About You

You will hold or currently be working towards an accountancy qualification. You will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly consult, guide and deliver robust recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders. You are brilliant at being able to adapt and reflect your approach to varying audience requirements, breaking down complex finance messages into understandable terms. You will influence and not be afraid to challenge at all levels.

You have great data analysis skills, with the ability to draw on evidence based decisions. You will be a confident and advanced user of Microsoft Excel with the ability to engage through reporting. You are a problem solver, with the initiative to identify, react and deliver to ever changing work demands.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, flexible and delivery focused. You have fantastic planning and organisational skills, often coordinating conflicting priorities delivering to deadlines.

Additional Info

There will be an additional allowance of £5,000 per year for fully qualified accountants.

Qualifications

To be eligible to apply for this role we require you to either hold or be currently working towards an accountancy qualification.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths, Ability, Experience and Technical skills.

As part of this role you will required to complete numerical reasoning test

The sift is due to take place from 7th December 2020

After submission of the first stage of your application you will be invited to complete a Numerical Reasoning test. If you successfully pass the test, you will be invited to complete the final stage of the application.

Please complete the online tests as soon as possible (within 24-48 hours is recommended), the closing date for the tests is 23:55 on 6th December. If you fail to complete the online test before the deadline your application will be withdrawn. Guidance for the test will be available when you are invited to take the test. The tests are administered online and accessed via the CS Jobs website.

Interviews/assessments are likely to be held from 18th December 2020

This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
