Are you experienced in all things credit underwriting? Can you lead a Commercial Credit Underwriting team? Do you put the customer at the heart of everything you do? If yes, then we may have the role for you! 

As the Head of Credit – Central Commercial teams, you will be responsible for leading a team of Credit Partners, Credit Managers and other specialist colleagues, who work in partnership with lending colleagues in the Central Commercial teams and Invoice Finance.

So what would you be doing?...

• Leading a team of Underwriters whose role is to assess commercial lending propositions across the various sectors covered by the Commercial Bank (large trading businesses and real estate), Private Bank and Invoice Finance teams

• Managing a varied pipeline of large and complicated new credit applications whilst making sure the quality of credit written remains high and within the Bank’s risk appetite

• Approving specific larger credit requests within a personal lending discretion or joint delegation with the head of the business area

• Presenting, analysing and critiquing larger and more complex lending propositions regularly to the Executive Leadership team at Credit Approval committee

• Joining lenders in virtual meetings with customers and accompanying them in meetings with and visits to borrowing customers

• Making sure appropriate deal structures are in place and bespoke loan documentation meets our requirements

• Helping to develop credit policy and procedures in a dynamic environment to enable the Bank to support customers in a prudent way

• Engaging with the wider Credit Risk teams on related project work and reporting

• Managing stakeholders to make sure that that the Credit Partner model operation is optimised

• Focusing on monitoring credit quality and dealing with connections where signs of distress/deterioration in risk profile is evident

• In order to exceed in this role, you will have experience operating with the significant responsibility of one of the highest individual personal delegated lending authorities with Metro Bank

• It is essential you have experience leading Underwriting teams and have direct experience underwriting of commercial lending propositions, using a personal lending authority 

• You must have the awareness and ability to coach the importance of deal structuring and what should be in loan documentation

• You need to have the ability to influence stakeholders across Credit, Commercial and Invoice Finance, the wider Credit Risk team and executive/senior management

• Ideally, you will have experience of coaching and developing less experienced lenders and Credit Partners/Managers

• You must know how to hold discussions with lenders and customers that are exhibiting signs of distress and formulating appropriate strategies
