We are looking for expert Senior Software Developers to join our new Digital Services team to deliver a diverse and successful portfolio of projects. The workload is varied and interesting, and you will have opportunities to transform your knowledge, experience and ideas into the design and implementation of a new software development service.

Leading your team's contribution to the project delivery of departmental and public facing solutions, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the team's growth with professional development activities, providing technical leadership and promoting best practice.

You will motivate your team to deliver challenging and complex digital solutions. You will be working in an agile environment so you will need to adjust your priorities and workloads to meet the changing needs of the business.
 

Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

• Leading the technical design and develop digital solutions, services and interfaces, applying both agile and waterfall software development approaches, with a team of software developers, user experience designers and database administrators.
• Research into software development to support the adoption of industry best practices and new approaches in the department.
• Applying and using standards, methods and tools for software development within DfT, including software development lifecycle management.
• Leading by example in the application of development techniques, such as agile, DevOps, test driven development and continuous integration.
• Managing a joined up team of software developers that are allocated to software development projects.
• Test digital solutions, services and interfaces.

About You

As the ideal candidate you will hold proven experience of developing cloud based solutions within an Agile Delivery Framework. This will include the ability to demonstrate experience designing, creating, testing and documenting new/amended software components from supplied specifications in line with agreed development & security standards and processes. You will be a highly organised individual, with the capacity to coach and mentor junior staff within a team environment. You will also hold proven experience in designing technically complex and secure information systems and an appreciation of cloud architectures.

This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.

The selection process will be designed specifically for the role. As a result, your assessment could include:
• an interview
• an interview a technical exercise (eg presentation, written exercise etc)
• a full day of activities including interactive, written and timed exercises
