Willmott Dixon are currently looking to recruit a Head of Design Management to join our London and East construction business. Based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, we deliver projects across multiple sectors within north London, the northern home counties and East Anglia.

The Head of Design Management will be responsible for providing leadership of the Design Management discipline within the business. This is an exciting opportunity for somebody to shape the structure of this team and create an environment that encourages continuous improvement and innovation with regards to how Design is managed. You will be a natural leader with outstanding communication skills.

You will be passionate about developing the people within your team and will look to create a culture of learning and mentoring that will allow people to progress and develop new skills.



Some of the duties and responsibilities within the role will include: -

  • Provide LCO leadership of the Design Management discipline.
  • Create a team and structure with the capacity to offer services which responds to the needs of both the LCO and our customers.
  • Deliver sustainable, affordable, simple and innovative designs
  • Achieve design completion before commencement for every project.
  • Ensure project compliance with LCO, Group and industry standards and policies.
  • Develop our people - create highly motivated and collaborative experts with industry leading expertise.
  • Establish consistency in the service level agreement provided by the team, clear accountability of each role within the discipline. Restructure team as required.
  • Create an environment and process which shares, captures and responds to lessons learLead and manage the relationships and principal contractual agreements with our Consultant Consortia partners. This will include insurances, warranties, BIM compliance, Yellow Book adoption, Off Site and Design for Manufacture and Assembly, etc.
  • Researching and advising our LCO on future developments in legislation and technologies within the construction industry.



Essential and Desirable Criteria

You will ideally have proven experience of:

  • Design Management for multiple, complex and/or high value projects
  • Full understanding of design and construct processes (i.e. RIBA)
  • Understanding of CAD and Revit
  • Common data environments
  • Managing costs, time and quality to target
  • Managing personal and team time
  • Dealing with diverse technical input
  • Collaborative working
  • Quality verbal, written and illustrative communication
  • Interpretation of project documentation and developing appropriate strategies
  • Ensure team understanding of project deliverables
  • Line management of specialist design team
  • Management of consultants
  • Engaging with customers
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Influencing and managing others towards a shared goal


Qualifications and memberships

Academic

Essential:

  • Excellent demonstrable standard of written and spoken English.
  • Minimum relevant level 4 qualification (HNC / NVQ4 etc)


Desirable

  • Construction related degree


Professional

Essential

  • Appropriate CSCS card.
  • Valid driving licence.


Desirable

  • Accreditation or affiliation with a construction based body such as MCIOB or working towards MCIOB
