General Summary

This is a new and exciting opportunity to be part of an evolving team, responsible for supplying compliant content to the digital platforms and linear channels within the Discovery portfolio, across UK & EMEA eg D+, Discovery Channel, TLC, Quest, Really, Animal Planet.

 

The Lead Compliance Editor will oversee a team of Compliance Editors and an Edit Coordinator, whilst also undertaking editing and compliance responsibilities. The position is required to edit and create versions in line with the Discovery clock patterns and technical specifications whilst also fulfilling compliance regulations. The role requires knowledge of EMEA broadcast regulations (eg Ofcom and Nicam), an awareness of cultural sensitivities within the region as well as proficiency in editing for broadcast. The Lead Compliance Editor will be required to support content assessments, queries and technical issues within the Compliance Editing team whilst having oversight of the delivery of edited material into the Broadcast Management Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of Compliance Editors and Edit Coordinator
  • Edit according to Discovery technical specifications using Adobe editing software
  • Edit for compliance requirements, following the content guidelines for UK & EMEA feeds and digital platforms, creating additional versions as necessary
  • Interpret multiple compliance regulations into programme edits
  • Ensure that all regional regulatory requirements (eg Ofcom, Nicam) relating to the Discovery portfolio of channels and VOD Platforms, are observed
  • Maintain the storyline, editorial standards and any Discovery standards and practices, of all edited versions 
  • Ensure all operational procedures are followed and thoroughly carry out metadata entry tasks
  • Maintain the edit station, handle technical editing to an advanced level and address issues
  • Manage and report any technical problems or errors into the Engineering team, as well as help further develop the current system in UAT (User Acceptance Testing)
  • Troubleshoot issues and queries and escalate when appropriate
  • Maintain QC standards of newly created materials
  • Ad hoc duties eg supporting colleagues in the Amsterdam Compliance Editing hub as required

Requirements


•    Extensive experience of editing to broadcast level
•    Solid experience and understanding of UK (Ofcom) and applying multiple other complex compliance regulations in multiple genres for multiple regulators
•    Experience in leading, managing and mentoring a team 
•    Solid experience and understanding of UK (Ofcom) and other EMEA compliance regulations - and the ability to apply to edit decisions
•    Ability to multi-task, work calmly under pressure and prioritise in order to comply with tight business and TX critical deadlines
•    Proficiency in simultaneously handling technical edits with programme compliance
•    Solution focused with confident decision-making skills
•    Experience of working collaboratively within a team and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across the global business
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
•    Excellent attention to detail
•    Some knowledge of file-based workflows and or broadcast technology
•    Experience of working in international TV and a genuine passion for and interest in the Discovery brands
•    Proficiency in another European language/s is desirable.
•    The ability to embrace and adapt to change in a dynamic environment
