The Opportunity
As the Senior Buyer for Germany you will focus on delivering an attractive, commercial customer offer that delivers maximum sales and profitability and successfully managing both the trading activities and profit and loss across the two territories, working closely with the local teams as well as numerous business functions in the UK.

What you'll be doing:
By determining the customer offer and developing profitable new lines with robust sales strategies you'll help our International business reach its commercial goals and aspirations. Generating profitable product and promotional strategies for the local market will be equally as important, whilst ensuring continuous improvement of our range and product offer through effective range analysis and range reviews.

You will have overall effective supply chain and cost management and closely manage critical paths to deliver the end result alongside other functions. You will keep abreast of market trends, customer requirements and competitor activity to identify market opportunities whilst conducting range reviews and undertaking continuous improvement of the product offer through effective range analysis. You will create open and effective relationships with stores through regular telephone communication and visits and lead a high performing team to meet and exceed objectives.

Ultimately you will have the responsibility to grow and develop new areas of business identified as growth opportunities, manage supplier relationships and negotiations to deliver supplier income and profit growth for a growing territory.

What we are looking for:
We are looking for someone with previous senior buying experience within a retail environment, ideally within FMCG, Food, Drinks or Consumer Goods. You will need to be fluent in both spoken and written German, with Dutch being advantageous - but not mandatory.

You should have experience of project management, working alongside multiple teams, leading a team and have proven ability of developing and delivering results within the category. You should have strong commercial skills and the ability to interpret the market quickly; with exceptional analytical skills and ability to utilise data to back business decisions.

You'll understand Profit and Loss Management and be an engaging and influential communicator able to communicate effectively internally and externally at various levels. You should also have excellent negotiation skills and proven ability of developing and delivering results within the category. International travel will be required within this position so willingness to travel to Germany and the Netherlands is required.

Why Join Us?
You'll be at of the hub of an incredibly fast-moving function and you'll be trusted to make decisions that benefit the business. It's a serious responsibility - which will seriously motivate you.

You'll thrive on the freedom and the chance to use your skills and will be supported with plenty of training and development opportunities. What's more, you can expect some fab rewards, including an achievable annual bonus, 25 days' holiday (and the option to buy more), pension, the perks of your birthday off and an early finish on Fridays, and lots more! Our London Head Office is only a five minute walk from Liverpool Street tube and close to lots of shops, bars and restaurants in the heart of the city!

Company

WHSmith started in 1792 with a small news vendor in Little Grosvenor Street, London, followed by the opening of our first bookstall in Euston Station in 1848. We quickly established ourselves as the favoured newsagent, stationers and bookseller opening stores across the UK. From this point on, there has been no looking back.
