We are now looking to appoint a part time Health & Safety professional who can partner with our Operational Directors & provide a proactive, professional and consultative approach to Health & Safety.

Our Facilities Maintenance, Defence and Justice business spans the UK covering contracts with the MOD and MOJ as well as local authorities. The Health & Safety business partner will have:

  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety requirements
  • Previous experience of HSEQ management in large organisations
  • Proven track record in influencing all levels of an organisation to deliver excellent HSEQ performance.
  • As a Health & Safety Business Partner you will support the senior levels of our business to formulate effective compliance and improvement plans aligned to Amey's Health & Safety strategy and those of our customers. You will act as a commercially aware, focused & business minded partner for Health & Safety, collaborating with the leadership teams to help ensure a collective vision that extends beyond health and safety systems and compliance and focuses on our people and their behaviour to help create a positively reinforced learning culture.

Role & Responsiblities

Duties shall also include, but are not limited to:

Reports to the FMDJ HSEQ Director, providing HSEQ support to the DEFENCE business; to create and maintain a culture of Ownership and Participation throughout the business including our sub-contract partners.

Maintain a close working relationship with the DIO, and Amey`s Senior Leadership Team

Responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Document Management System, maintaining a certified Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality Management System that covers all contract requirements and areas of scope.

Be fully conversant with the applicable Client (MOD, DIO) and Amey requirements and standards and ensure these are fully communicated and complied with, including where relevant publications, establishment policies and emergency arrangements.

Holds responsibility for ensuring Amey remains compliant with all statutory health and safety and MOD requirements, reporting to the management board. You shall provide assistance to all Amey personnel as the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations, (Regulation 7) Principal Appointed Person.

  • Create and manage Assurance Plans to provide systematic, independent and documented checks and reviews to determine contract compliance.
  • Review legislative change or DIO requirement that may have impact on Amey making representation to the Amey Senior Management to agree the necessary change process
  • Assessing opportunities for continual improvement and driving actions to achieve objectives
  • Ensuring that the responsibilities and roles of subordinate personnel are defined clearly;
  • Liaising with the legal advisers and insurers of Amey in respect to personal injury and other claims and preparing associated reports as necessary;
  • Ensuring all staff under your control receive suitable and adequate health and safety training commensurate with their duties;
  • Keeping Amey staff informed of changes in H&S regulations and procedures which affect them;
  • Providing a rolling programme of health and safety awareness training and updating of staff, arranging specialist training where required;
  • Convening, and chairing, any Accident Investigation Board, assisting Region management in the investigation and reporting of serious incidents, accidents and injuries, compiling and maintaining health and safety statistics;
  • Chairing regular Company health and safety management meetings (at least 3 monthly);
  • Reviewing the health and safety performance of Amey regularly and ensuring that any necessary remedial measures are implemented promptly;
