Overall Job Purpose

To perform a multi-functional role within the strategic underwriting team, encompassing a broad range of strategy, risk and philosophy based underwriting disciplines, ensuring the delivery of a world class underwriting proposition. Primary function will be to deliver a post issue underwriting audit programme of policies automatically accepted through VitalityLife’s underwriting engine to determine the accuracy of application disclosures.

Additional responsibilities will involve underwriting quality audits, retrospective underwriting of claims, a degree of high net worth underwriting and underwriting philosophy training. Building relationships with key stakeholders will be essential.

Accountabilities

• Ensure a robust post issue underwriting non-disclosure QA is positioned to maximise value and work with key internal stakeholders and Reinsurers to drive the programme forward. Analyse data collected and consider and recommend areas for improvements or change. Ensure post issue communications are sound and evidence collation appropriate.
• Support in the training and development of distribution by identifying and reporting on trends where non-disclosure could be improved upon.
• Support the retrospective underwriting of claims assessments.
• Conduct new business underwriting audits as required.
• Complex risk assessment to include high net worth underwriting.
• Liaise with the Automated Underwriting Team and provide recommendations on where improvements to question sets and/or underwriting philosophy can be made. 
• Take responsibility for keeping up to date with changes to underwriting philosophy and processes, underwriting systems, reinsurance manuals and internal guidelines.
• Delivering underwriting philosophy based training to Operations.
• Attendance of underwriting related industry meetings and seminars.

Skills Required

Essential

• Experience at a senior underwriter level with in-depth medical and financial knowledge in respect of Life cover, Serious Illness and Income Protection. Familiar with concepts of a post issue underwriting QA.
• Good working knowledge of regulatory procedures/requirements within the industry.

Desirable

• Relevant medical or underwriting qualifications.
