Buying forms the backbone of our business and is incredibly fast-paced. We now have an exciting opportunity in our Health & Beauty category for a Buying Assistant to join our London Head Office. In Stationery & Cards, our Buyers have to manage suppliers strategically and creatively, keeping on top of the latest trends to drive the category forward.

What will you do?
As a Buying Assistant you will support the Stationery & Cards trading teams with the set up of new product lines, system price changes and product administration within our categories. You’ll manage and maintain our promotional offering across selected trading areas; provide accurate data insight and analysis on the range performance and contribute to the categories’ growth. There is also potential to manage smaller ranges within the Health & Beauty category to give you an insight into what buying is all about.

You’ll utilise your communication skills to work with our suppliers to manage invoicing and data requirements and build strong working relationships. An analytical mindset is important to us; so you’ll use your strong Excel skills to provide sales analysis to our trading teams to support growth. We expect you to be able to create open and effective relationships with our stores, and manage your own workload.

Who we’re looking for?
To be successful in this role you will have a passion, interest and some experience within buying administration, have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be able to build effective relationships. You’ll remain calm under pressure and manage your workload in a fast paced environment. You will be PC Literate, confident with Excel and the Microsoft office package (including using Pivot Tables / V-Lookups, Sum ifs), and will use your analytical mindset to confidently interpret and analyse data.

This role would suit a graduate seeking their first opportunity in Buying or someone with some Retail Head Office experience looking to progress their career in a renowned and successful retail brand.

What’s in it for you?
You’ll be at of the hub of an incredibly fast-moving function and you’ll be trusted to make decisions that benefit the business. You’ll thrive on the freedom and the chance to use your skills and will be supported with plenty of training and development opportunities. What’s more, you can expect some great rewards in return, including an achievable annual bonus, 24 days’ holiday (and the option to buy more), a competitive pension, your birthday off and an early finish on Fridays! Our London Head Office is only a five minute walk from both Liverpool Street and Aldgate tube stations, and close to lots of shops, bars and restaurants.

Company

WHSmith started in 1792 with a small news vendor in Little Grosvenor Street, London, followed by the opening of our first bookstall in Euston Station in 1848. We quickly established ourselves as the favoured newsagent, stationers and bookseller opening stores across the UK. From this point on, there has been no looking back.
