Job Details

Multi-location from one of our FSA Offices (Belfast, Cardiff, Birmingham, London or York), or home based in the UK. Occasional travel to London office and external locations for meetings as required , Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not overseas.

About the job Summary

The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trust”. Our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and consumers’ wider interest in food. As we have now exited the EU the FSA faces a significant period of change and activity.

Job description

The use of science has always been central to the Agency’s mission, and our expert science, evidence and research underpins and supports the FSA’s work, including risk assessment, risk management and delivery processes for controls on food hygiene, animal feed and foodborne diseases.

The generation of independent, expert advice is critical to us remaining a trusted regulator. Within the FSA, the Science, Evidence and Research Division (SERD) has overall responsibility for delivering this. The Division’s mission is to provide expert risk assessment, and other scientific/socio-economic evidence and advice. This is done using a team of over 90 experts within SERD, as well as engaging with external experts through our science committees, independent experts, and our strategic and applied research programmes.

Coordinating these engagements and developing strategic partnerships that can continue to help the FSA deliver on our scientific ambitions, the Research Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator will play a key role in the success of the wider department.

A keen believer in the importance of science in guiding our work and strategy, the post holder will seek to champion the integration of science across the FSA, improving the impact of the department, ensuring science is communicated and used effectively, and is available to others who can re-use it and add value.

The successful candidate will engage with colleagues across the Agency as well as external stakeholders from across government, academia and the wider industry. Coordinating a targeted programme of engagement, they will serve as an important representative for the FSA, and ultimately seek to ensure that the Agency is positioned to do the best work possible.

Communication and relationship-building is central to the success of the candidate, who will also provide line management for one other position. If you are experienced at bringing people together to achieve greater goals and are passionate about the use of science to inform and guide policy, don’t hesitate to apply.
