Director of Communications

We are looking for an experienced communications professional for a charity committed to action on climate change.

You will be working for the UK’s biggest group of people dedicated to climate change, with a combined supporter base of more than 22 million people. They encompass over 100 organisations spanning nature, environment, international development, faith, community and women’s groups.

Position: Director of Communications

Location: Flexible, homebased with some travel to head office in London

Salary: Circa £55k depending on experience

Duration: Fixed-term contract, until March 2022

Hours: Full time, (open to discussing as a part-time role with minimum 3 days/wk)

About the role:

As Director of Communications you will be responsible for delivering a high-ambition communications strategy for the charity, working closely with the interim Director and Head of Campaigns to deliver the overall communications strategy.

The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) this year, you will be responsible for leading the strategic communications in the lead up to this event and ensuring momentum is maintained afterwards. There will also be an emphasis on maximising the impact of Great Big Green Week in September, as well as developing communications campaigns for 2022.

You will be responsible for the management of a small communications team of 4-5 people, with 3 direct reports.

About you:

We are looking for an experienced communications professional who is passionate about using creative campaigns to reach new audiences in the vital lead up to, and beyond the COP26.

You will bring with you the following skills and experience:

 

  • A proven track record of delivering impact using multiple communications channels
  • Experience leading high-profile and high-performing creative development, communications and content for key moments with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to develop ambitious and measurable impact targets and insights focused on our core audiences
  • Proven experience leading a high-performing team that delivers on time, to a high standard
  • Excellent audience insight and ability to shape relevant messages and campaigns to target audiences
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships and networks; experience of leading high-level partnership or stakeholder outreach
