Here at the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), we are looking for a diligent Finance Officer to join our newly formed Future of Shared Services Survey & Inspection Project Team. You will be responsible for preparing customer accounts for reconciliation, as part of the data cleansing project in preparation for the implementation of a new financial accounting system in 2023. You will provide vital financial and administrative support across Finance, the Survey & Inspection National Business Unit and the FoSS S&I Project Team. Processing Shipping Accounts, Invoicing and Refunds through the Agresso (ABW) platform. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of action taken to ensure there is no duplication of work.
 

Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:

•Work under the line management and direction of the FoSS S&I Project Lead to ensure that customer accounts are prepared for reconciliation.

•Maintain engagement with MCA HQ Finance, FoSS S&I Project Team and Survey & Inspection National Business Unit in order to adhere to high levels of governance particularly relating to all areas of the Agresso (ABW) platform, ensuring full understanding and compliance with MCA accounting requirements. With particular emphasis regarding customer's shipping accounts.

•Interrogate online and paper records to present a recommendation to the FoSS S&I PL for further action with regard to customer accounts.

•Maintain accurate records to show progress of work undertaken. Provide updates to FoSS S&I PL on progress and work with FoSS S&I PL to overcome any issues encountered. Report any risk as soon as it is identified.

•Provide routine administrative business support. This may include maintaining a shared email inbox, telephone answering, filing (paper and electronic systems) and post duties.

Additional Information

Work/Travel on official duty within the UK which may involve overnight stays away from home. Visits to HO Finance in Southampton will form part of this role. As this role will involve interrogating paper records you must be able to work in the Beverley Office on a regular basis.

About You

We would love to attract someone who has exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You are a self-starter, who appreciates the importance of maintaining accurate financial data records and has an understanding of financial management and controls. You will be able to build rapport quickly with internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively and sharing best practice.

With a methodical approach to your work and inquisitive nature, you are proactive in seeking resolutions and can resolve issues that arise through your quick thinking. You enjoy working autonomously within your defined area of responsibility and recognise the limits of your authority.

Excellent organisational skills are required, and you will be able to manage and filter workflow as well as organise and prioritise your work to maximise productivity. You will be highly adaptable and flexible, adjusting to the requirements of the role. To be successful in this role, you will be required to have good IT skills, particularly MS Excel.
