At the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), we have an opportunity for a Deputy Medical Administration Manager to come on board and join our dynamic and diligent team. The Medical Administration Team, within the Seafarer Safety & Health branch - oversees the MCA approved doctor system, ensuring UK seafarers are adequately assessed for medical fitness to serve onboard UK flagged vessels, and that MCA approved doctors are kept up to date with relevant standards and guidelines. As the Deputy Medical Administration Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team to provide an effective administrative support service to the Chief Medical Advisor, Approved Doctors, Medical Referees and ML5 Assessors. Medical training is not required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Management of a small team to complete the daily workflow in the branch, including tasking, training, objective setting and performance appraisal. Ensuring service standards and quality standards are met and production of monthly statistics. Management of the Medical Administration Team budget.
Customer service manager, dealing with enquiries from doctors, employers, seafarers, and others about the medical system, including medical standards, medical stores, and radio medical advice questions.
Provide administrative support to the Chief Medical Advisor and secretariat for regular liaison meetings. The management of complex casework questions and dealing with confidential medical correspondence.
The management of the Approved Doctor (AD) system, including the appointment and annual reappointment of doctors, the provision of an audit programme, preparation of annual statistical returns and management reports of medicals conducted by approved doctors. Ensuring ADs are provided with all relevant information and producing AD newsletters.
Management of seafarer medical reviews, providing support to the doctors conducting the review, the organisation of the casework audit meetings, and providing secretariat support at the meetings.

This role will involve very occasional travel to attend meetings, no more than 5 meetings per year.
