We are looking for a talented legacy case administration specialist to join our team who are responsible for maximising the amount received by ActionAid UK from legacies bequeathed to the organisation. Legacy income represents around 7% of ActionAid UK’s total income. Legacy fundraising is an area of growth, in terms of income and investment and we are looking for someone to play a part in developing this area of giving.

ActionAid UK is a member of the ActionAid Federation, an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty.

As part of the ActionAid Federation, we work with women and girls, our partners, and dedicated staff in 43 countries to end violence and fight poverty so that all women, everywhere, can create the future they want. You will be ensuring that cases are handled speedily and efficiently, and that income is maximised. You will be managing, monitoring and controlling our internal systems, databases and procedures to acknowledge, record and follow up legacy gifts. It will mean working with key stakeholder to ensure ActionAid UK meets its statutory obligations by monitoring changes in tax law, probate law, charity law and Charity Commission regulations. It also means ensuring that legacy marketing activities are implemented to promote to the public and professional audiences, the benefits of residuary and pecuniary legacies and benefits in kind to ActionAid UK in a manner which reflects and reinforces the brand values and mission in order to increase ActionAid UK’s income through these channels.

The successful candidate will have proven experience of dealing with external and internal stakeholders on complex legacy issues. They will have excellent administration and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate sympathetically, with a polite and professional manner and show empathy to others. They will have Up to date knowledge of the law relating to estates and probate in England, Wales and Scotland, and an ILM Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration. They will be understanding and sensitive when speaking with supporters.

Essential:

  • Up to date knowledge of the law relating to estates and probate in England, Wales and Scotland.
  • Legacy/probate experience.
  • ILM Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration.
  • Experience of dealing with external and internal stakeholders on complex legacy issues. 

Desirable:

  • If not a relevant qualification, evidence of continuing professional development to support this area of fundraising is desirable.
  • Experience of working in a charity.
