Job Details

Location

Multi-location from one of our FSA Offices (Belfast, Cardiff, Birmingham, London or York), or home based in the UK. Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not overseas. Occasional travel will be required.

About the job The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trust”. Our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and consumers’ wider interest in food. As we have now exited the EU the FSA faces a significant period of change and activity.

We need a Communications Manager in the External Affairs team to support our work building strategic relationships with key stakeholders. This will be a busy period for us as we take stock of the changes that came into effect at the end of the transition period, and as we engage with our stakeholders on what comes next. We need to make sure that key stakeholders understand the FSA’s expanded remit and our priorities for the future, and we need to continue to position ourselves as an influential voice within the food system.

This post is advertised as a 23 months fixed term/Loan/Secondment appointment. Candidates that are already established Civil Servants will come to the FSA on a Loan basis and will need to request permission from their Home Department for the Loan prior to applying for this job. Job description

Duties include:

• Insight: you will understand the FSA’s stakeholder landscape and act as the key source of intelligence and insight for the organisation on the FSA’s key stakeholders, using social listening and other tools to understand their interests and motivations, and feeding these into our engagement plans. You will develop our political insight function by tracking sentiment and activity on key FSA issues. You will share this insight with the rest of the organisation to raise awareness of stakeholder views and inform our policy making and delivery.

• Strategic engagement: You will work with colleagues across the FSA to make sure that effective plans are in place to build and maintain relationships with our key stakeholders. You will identify ways to develop new relationships and will horizon scan to identify proactive engagement opportunities and make sure that the FSA is effectively represented at key events.
