London based (please only apply if able to work 3 days per week in this location post covid)

 

Salary & Benefits: £68,139 - £ 75,710 base salary, plus annual personal bonus, 15% employer pension contribution, 4% flexible cash pot, private medical insurance, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays. You'll work in our Digital Communication lab, being part of fun dynamics team who are at the forefront of leading the way for customers & colleagues. We transform & digitise the Lloyds Banking Group Retail Bank across mobile, branch, telephony and internet banking. To give you an idea our bespoke application sends 30 million messages a day!

 

Our team powers its co-located teams to create dynamic environments using agile methodology, including scrum, ultimately providing outstanding customer experiences; and by driving innovative technology solutions that drive iterative change across research, buy and servicing needs to market at pace.

 

Job Description Summary:

As a Senior Java Engineer you'll work in a highly collaborative way to drive efforts to create, build, support and improve our frontend client software, working in partnership with a range of teams encountering lots of exciting new challenges. You'll become a core contributor ensuring quality and engineering practices are followed in accordance with engineering transformation strategy.

 

As Senior Java Engineer we'll need you to posses a "can-do" demeanour, capable of bootstrapping projects and working optimally with multi-disciplinary, internal and external distributed teams across the project lifecycle. You will be working on our core Digital Communications Manager platform, orchestrating message delivery on eMail, SMS and Push technologies, and supporting the migration form our legacy platform.

 

What you'll doing:

  • You'll identify general improvements and implement front-end methodologies, collaborate with the product/design team to iterate the design function and implement the products and collaborate with Backend and DevOps Engineers to build features and experiments
  • You'll build relationships and work efficiently with others across a variety of domains, subject areas and locations.
  • Be passionate about technology and its application to real-world problems with strong Computer Science fundamentals.
  • You'll build efficient and reusable front-end systems and abstractions, find and address performance issues, participate in design and code reviews.

 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • At least 4 years' experience in Java Development
  • Experience of multi-threading and high output applications
  • Experience in Spring /Spring Boot
  • Experience in Web services: SOAP, REST+JSON
  • Some relational database experience (Oracle or DB2 would be phenomenal, but it's not super important!)
  • Git, Kafka (we use for queues)
  • Some Hadoop Platform experience. HBase is the main one, Storm second. Hive, Spark, HDFS would be fantastic too.

 

Desirable:

  • PL/SQL and a good understanding of email/push/sms
  • Urban Code, JRunner
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Cloud

 

Tools we like use:

  • Eclipse, Intellij IDEA
  • Jenkins
  • Web services test tool: Postman or SOAP UI.
  • Ideally:- Maven, Splunk
