PE & GAMES ASSISTANT Starting September 2021

As an Outstanding school, we are looking for somebody to join our fabulous school to assist and deliver PE and games lessons during the school day, at lunchtimes and provide sports activities for our Afterschool Club. Alongside the PE Leader, the focus of this role will be to plan and deliver PE and games lessons and active play during the lunch breaks to ensure that all pupils not only participate in more fun and engaging active play, but also learn about health lifestyle choices. These sessions should be aimed at pupils of all abilities and also offer opportunities for those pupils who do not easily enjoy physical activity. Part of this role will be to support pupils to increase their skill level in PE and sports and to attain physical and mental health wellbeing so that they will become better equipped for life. The role will be for 30 hours a week in term time only; Mondays to Fridays from 11.45am to 5.45pm.

Ideally, in applying for this post you will have:

  • A recognised sports qualification
  • A thorough understanding of all safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • A positive outlook at all times and the ability to make learning and work fun
  • A keen interest in sports and games of all kinds
  • High standards of work ethic and self-motivation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong team working approach
  • High standards of personal presentation, punctuality, attendance and professional standards
  • The ability to follow instructions and use initiative to 'think on your feet'
  • Previous experience of working with children with the ability to lead and supervise activities

This role is funded by the PE & Sports Grant and is therefore temporary for one year with the opportunity to be extended if funding continues. The successful candidate may also be required to work additional hours to attend sports tournaments, with notice, that may happen outside of school hours for which additional hours may be claimed.

In applying for this position, we expect all members of our school staff to continue with professional development and to seek opportunities to increase their knowledge and skill. The school is fully committed to continued professional development and expects all staff to undertake training as and when required.

Whitstable & Seasalter Endowed Church of England (Aided) Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This is underpinned by robust processes and procedures that seek to maximise opportunity, minimise risk and continuously promote a culture of safeguarding amongst our workforce. All successful applicants will be required to complete an enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and check against the ISA Barred List for children. Appointed staff are also expected to follow a robust Code of Conduct in accordance with our church school's Christian Values.

Information about the school

We are a Church of England Aided Junior school, situated in the heart of Whitstable. From September 2021 we will be admitting 60 children into Year 3 from our local infant feeder schools. We are at the start of our expansion and will have seven classes in September 2021, eventually growing to eight classes in total by 2024. Locally we are known as 'The Endowed' and we describe ourselves as an old school with a young heart.

Our children come from all sorts of different backgrounds. Our parents, friends, governors and our local churches give amazing support and this, together with the dedication of a very experienced and caring staff, make The Endowed the Outstanding school that it is.
