About the roleAs a Cloud Data Architect, you will lead the architecture and design of key cloud data projects and associated infrastructure deployment. You will determine the right technical approach to deliver secure, integrated and robust solutions in the cloud (PaaS first). Integration will include existing on-premise data assets and solutions.

You will need to champion new technology and approaches to help shape and continually improve business data assets and services across many business areas. You will work closely with development teams, especially Lead Developers, who will be your sounding board for new developments. You will technically lead distinct projects to ensure that they are working to the same overall goal, working with Project Managers to identify risks and opportunities, creating both high level and detailed plans for delivery and design.

You will be part of an Architect forum, where you will be expected to contribute strongly to new ideas, new developments and business / technical challenges.

About you

  • You will have a passion to understand the big picture of a solution You will have at least 10 years’ experience working with data solutions Experience of Big Data Analytics, Data Lake/Warehouse and Microsoft BI stack Experience of modern cloud data architectures and cloud data environments (Azure / AWS / GCP)

You will bring both a visionary and practical approach to architecture design. You will be able to grasp the wider picture and then design solutions that will deliver. You will have an open mind to new technology but mindful of the risks that evolution and revolution bring and are able to communicate this clearly to project managers / stakeholders. Your extensive experience will guide your approach and you will be able to lead very technical discussions with the development teams to answer questions, remove blockers, expose risks and get to robust solutions.

You will have strong knowledge of cloud environments, specialising in cloud data solutions and services and will look to continually expand that knowledge.

Your communications skills will be excellent and you will be able to convey complex architectures effectively to senior managers and developers alike through conversation, visual presentation and technical documentation.

Essential Skills

 

  • Knowledge of architectural frameworks Architecting cloud services in (preferably in Azure – IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) Knowledge of cloud-based data engineering / data analytics tools (preferably ADF, Databricks/Spark) Knowledge of cloud security ETL/ELT architectures at scale Relational Databases (preferably SQL Server 2012+) Cloud and on-premise Business Intelligence Stacks (preferably PowerBI, Azure AS, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) Data Warehouse architecture and design Data Governance / GDPR

Preferred Skills

  • Multiple languages (e.g. Python, C#, Spark SQL, DAX, R, Scala etc) Data stream processing architecture and technologies (Azure Streaming Analytics, Kafka etc.) Batch management Data quality methods
