Occupational Health Leader

Location: National remit with access to offices throughout the UK

Overview: An important part of the leadership team to establish and rollout safety and wellbeing strategies.

Are you an occupational health professional who can establish, implement and execute strategies? To become the industry leader in health, safety and wellbeing we need your expertise.

Can you help Laing O'Rourke to focus on effective occupational health in relation to safety? Help us to push the boundaries of how we manage risk and implement best practice across our various workplaces.

As part of the leadership team, we want your expertise as an occupational health leader. Are you a professional who likes to develop policies and practices? Do you know the appropriate legislations? Then you could be the one for us.

Working closely with a team of project based occupational health advisors to ensure that the health of our people is not adversely affected by their work. You will proactively consider effects of work activities on occupational health, help internal and external teams with risk assessments and check competencies of workplace teams, promote and coordinate the delivery of training and coaching.

  • A team player who can be the trusted advisor on occupational health and wellbeing
  • Able to build belief in individuals and project teams through effective communication methods
  • The ability to consult across a diverse team on problem solving and decision making

What are some of the expertise required in the role?

  • Creation of occupational health strategies, the implementation and execution across internal stakeholders and leadership teams
  • Communication of strategy and compliance with project teams, design teams, supply chain, training providers, human resources and other stakeholders
  • Ensure correct tools for risk assessment, early identification, intervention and management of ill-health issues along with training and competency assessments
  • Work with Laing O'Rourke's occupational health provider (Optima)
  • Own and be responsible for the occupational health budget
  • Utilise internal and external communication channels to capture, promote and share occupational health case studies, agendas and achievements
  • Delivery of fatal and severe occupational health risk assessments as established by projects and teams
  • Influence leadership teams to develop the soft skills required to effectively delivery occupational health
  • Ensure delivery of positive investigations/ appreciative enquiries and engage with the workforce to understand how success is created within the business and what our people need and rely upon to replicate that success
