Job Details

ROLE SUMMARY

To lead a team who enable communication of the safe and appropriate use and the value of Pfizer medicines and vaccines in order to improve patient outcomes, enhance clinical practice and support business needs.

To ensure promotional and non-promotional activities and materials within scope of the ABPI Code are in full compliance with the ABPI Code of Practice, UK laws and regulations and related Standard Operating Procedures.

To ensure the team provide end-to-end medical partnership to the nominated internal team(s), from strategic conception of a programme to content development and approval. Internal teams may include colleagues in commercial roles and non-promotional roles such as patient experience or policy & public affairs.

To develop and drive simplification into medical review and approval of materials whilst maintaining the highest levels of diligence and effective decision making by the team to:

  • Ensure that the team delivers with integrity
  • Deliver consistency of approach to materials compliance across the Pfizer business units
  • Enable efficiency and streamlined review and approval processes

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to

Team Leadership

  • Leadership of team, including setting business objectives, performance management and team development
  • Recruitment of talented colleagues and/or contractors and development and retention of talented colleagues

Enable Effective Team Working

  • Planning and simplifying processes and procedures where possible that are related to the Code Approval Team's activity
  • Resource allocation to ensure appropriate resources to fulfil medical objectives and business needs

Collaboration with Pfizer teams to Enable Streamlined Content Creation

  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure timely receipt of information on brand strategy, clinical plan, new clinical data, new regulatory and safety information and accurate, balanced and up to date materials to use in promotional and non-promotional communications

Thought Leader for Promotional Compliance Strategy

  • To work in collaboration with the Code Approval Team and the Compliance team to shape and evolve the promotional compliance strategy for Pfizer UK and to enable industry leading ways of working that are high quality, ethical and streamlined

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Registered physician or UK registered pharmacist preferred. A graduate in health-related science may be considered if they have significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry in medical affairs and in depth knowledge and experience of the ABPI Code of Practice
  • For physicians, GMC registration with a Licence to Practice is preferred. Doctors registered outside the UK may be considered if they are capable of being registered in the UK without the need for additional tests of medical/clinical knowledge (i.e. PLAB exempt) and if they have significant pharmaceutical industry experience and understanding of the UK healthcare system
  • For pharmacy applicants UK registration is required

Experience:

  • ABPI Code Signatory/Examiner - current signatory or medical examiner is desirable
  • Medical Affairs experience including experience of materials development/review is essential
  • Significant pharmaceutical industry experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Code review and certification requirements gained through relevant industry experience
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice and requirements for approval of materials and activities in scope of the Code
  • Good understanding of the business and of commercial and medical roles
  • Collaboration evidenced by effective team working
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strategic thinking and demonstrated change agility
  • Line management experience desirable

Technical:

  • Fluency in business English
  • Excellent understanding of the NHS environment
  • Good knowledge of pharmacovigilance, regulatory legislation, drug development and life cycles
  • Business acumen
  • Familiar and comfortable with digital technologies sufficient to enable the Code Approval Team to deliver excellent core digital capabilities (defined below)
