Job description

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) is responsible for promoting transparency and integrity in business. We are the UK Competent Authority for audit and set the UK Corporate Governance and Stewardship Codes as well as UK standards for accounting, auditing and actuarial work. We monitor and take action to promote the quality of corporate reporting and operate independent enforcement arrangements for accountants and actuaries. The FRC’s Governance team provides secretariat support to the FRC’s governance structure and to the Executive Committee.

We are currently seeking a Governance Associate to support the team in providing a high-quality governance service to the FRC, particularly on compliance matters and the provision of high-level secretariat support the FRC’s subsidiary.


• Supporting the Company Secretary in maintaining the FRC Governance Handbook, including through ensuring compliance with policies and procedures contained within the handbook and regular review of policies and procedures.

• Supporting the introduction of a new Conflict of Interest management system.

• Maintaining statutory registers and internal governance registers, ensuring annual updates and confirmations are received and appropriately recorded / published if applicable.

• Maintaining an annual compliance calendar with relevant deadlines (statutory and non-statutory).

• Supporting the company secretary in ensuring that compliance reports are prepared and submitted to the relevant Committee / Board in the timeframe set out in the relevant policy / or timetable.

• Ensuring non-financial information required for the FRC’s annual reports and accounts is collated over the year.

• Providing secretarial support to the FRC’s subsidiary, including circulating papers and taking minutes of decisions and actions.

• Review of the governance pages of the website to ensure all information is up to date.

Skills required

Experience working within a company secretarial, compliance or legal team is preferred. The ideal candidates will have:

• Sound knowledge of good corporate governance and an up to date working knowledge of applicable UK company law, codes and regulations

• Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills, with good attention to detail

• A proactive work style

• Experience of handling sensitive and confidential data

The role is based in our Central London Office. The post holder should be able to work flexibly to support the team’s activities and also provide cover within the FRC as necessary. From 6 September FRC will be operating a hybrid working arrangement with its workforce. This is four-day fortnight in the office (applied on a pro-rata basis for part time roles) and any arrangement will be agreed between the employee and the line manager.
