Salary: GBP8.91 per hour (Full Time Equivalent is GBP16,216 per annum)

We've got an opportunity...

At the British Red Cross, we put the people that need us at the heart of what we do. As a Service Support Worker, you will provide the support and care which can make a vital difference to the quality of people's lives, allowing them to continue living at home in comfort.

Working from Leighton Hospital, you will provide a transport and resettlement service to service users living within east Cheshire, ensuring that they get home safely and are comfortable.

You will respond to referrals from Clinicians and Community Health Professionals and will be required to have the ability to assess service users' needs. In addition, you will be providing practical and emotional support in the service user's own home and signposting to other services where appropriate to enable the individual to live independently in their own home.

Not only will your role allow people to enjoy healthier, more fulfilling lives, but a career within Independent Living can be both rewarding and satisfying, providing extensive progression opportunities and allowing you to build meaningful relationships with both colleagues and service users.

The Service Support Worker will act as contingency for the Service Coordinator when required and may need to provide cover for their colleagues at other hospitals served by the Red Cross in the area. Service confidentiality and safeguarding vulnerable people are key responsibilities of the role.

Please Note: the responsibilities of this post do not include personal care or management of medication. We'll aim to let you know available hours 2-4 weeks in advance (but sometimes we may ask you to support at short notice to cover unexpected absence).

Casual working hours are flexible to fit round you and your commitments and can incorporate days, mornings or evenings. If you have other commitments in life (e.g. college, family, hobbies) then we'll work with you to be as flexible as possible around your other commitments.

Say hello to the team???

Sometimes a little help can go a long way. The Independent Living (IL) & Crisis Response (CR) service (IL/CR) are dedicated to making lives of vulnerable people a little bit better. We're a small team dotted all over the country that shares the same goal - to help those that need it most. From picking up groceries to helping out around the house, we're there to make a difference. There's nothing better than knowing the time we spent with someone made them feel safer, happier, and more able to deal with crisis.

This role could be for you if???

You can make things great. You know how to improve service quality for the benefit of users. You're professional. You can deal with queries in a diplomatic and confidential manner. You love being flexible. Working hours out with the norm suits you.

Also, you should be the following:

  • A Driver of legal age, hold a full driving licence (appropriate for the class of vehicle), and have 2 years' experience (access to own vehicle is advised)
  • Have a good knowledge of services provided by the NHS and Social Care
  • Are local to the East Cheshire area and can easily commute within the area

Closing date for applications is 23.59 on Wednesday 27th October 2021 with interviews to follow soon after.
